I thought through medical retirement; if he decides to come back, Portland would be on the hook for the contract and would still have the rights to him? I'm not certain, but I think that's the case.
nope. He retires, and you waive him. Same thing that happened with Miles. Otherwise, if we still held his rights, we could have sat his fat ass on the bench, and had more cap space
Now why do you have to take a crack at Oden like that? It's ridiculous the amount of criticism the guy gets for something he has no control over.
Sorry, personally I think Oden doesn't take care of himself. But I guess that was foul to dig on him on this thread.
Agreed, except that Kobe, reportedly, was pretty much bone on bone in one knee before he had some fancy pants new treatment in Germany last summer that has his knee feeling good again. I don't know if it's possible Brandon could get the same results, and I wouldn't expect a long playing career if he does, but could happen, I suppose. I wish him the best, but man it would suck to see him in another uniform.
Agree. He aint coming back. I'm not even gonna waste my time thinking about it. There needs to be a picture size limit for signatures. Mamba's is just ridiculous.
What Kobe had done was similar to the plasma treatment Roy has been doing. Coming back with no cartilage is not only dumb, it's dangerous.
So if he comes back, then Paul Allen will be on the hook for the contract? I mean the insurance will stop paying?
It would have surprised me if Roy didn't at least think about coming back. On an emotional level, this is what he's been working for for a good chunk of his life....even players who have had good and long careers, like Michael Jordan and Brett Favre, struggled to stay away. It must be even harder for someone like Roy who probably feels his career was stolen from him.
I just heard the audio from the interview on The Fan and it doesnt sound like B.Roy to me. The way the guy talks and the words he uses doesnt sound like the B.Roy I've heard 100+ times. The quick laugh sounds like him, but that could be faked.
Paul Allen is already "on the hook" for Roy's contract. He was amnestied. He didn't medically retire. BNM
We're talking about a guy that wanted to play in the playoffs 9 days after knee surgery (with the Blazers being stupid enough to let him). I fully expect Brandon to make at run at it. The biggest obstacle is convincing a team he can play.
Personally, I don't have any doubt that Brandon will give a comeback a shot. A guy with that kind of drive isn't going to be happy being retired at 27 if there's any shot at all that he can play for a while. As an UFA, he can pick his team and his situation. Nobody's going to think twice about giving him the Vet's minimum to take a stab at it while PA pays for the rest of his salary. I suspect that there's an insurance company that's positively giddy at the idea of seeing Brandon on the court again and slipping out from paying off to the Blazers.
In other news, Lynyrd Skynyrd is planning a reunion tour this summer featuring all 5 original band members.
I think this is just his emotional attachment to bball talking. He apparently has been watching too much lebron and kobe too, this smells like diva city to me.
Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman I asked Coach Mac his reaction to hearing that Brandon Roy was contemplating a comeback. He flashed a stunned look. Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman "I haven't seen that, I haven’t heard that," McMillan said of Roy's comeback thoughts. "But that would be surprising." Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman Coach Mac said he has reached out to Roy over the phone, but has not talked to him this season Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman One person who has talked to Roy – two days ago, in fact – is @JCrossover Jamal said he was as surprised as everyone to read today's report. Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman "I read it on hoopshype like everybody else," Crawford said of hearing about Roy. "I mean he’s kicked the idea around before. ... (cont) Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman Crawford cont: "But he didn’t say anything like it was for sure or anything. I read it on hoopshype." Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman Crawford said Roy has not stopped working out during his "retirement," and has continued to play in pickup and other games in Seattle.
