Sources close to Republican presidential front-runner Willard "Mitt" Romney report that Romney has included Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden on a short list of potential running mates for the November election. The Romney camp is reportedly interested in Wyden in response to his tireless work providing cover for Republican agendas on health care and taxes. "It's perfect, when you think about it," said a senior member of the Romney campaign staff. "The Jewish thing cancels out the Mormon thing, you pick up a lot of liberal New York money, he draws in the West Coast and the techies, and you get an experienced, Teflon-coated candidate to cheese it up on the back of the stage." Wyden, 61, has represented Oregon in Congress for 31 years. He has been in the Senate since 1996, and he serves on the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Energy and Natural Resources Committees, plus some others. Among his "bipartisan" proposals have been to abolish the federal estate tax and to privatize parts of Medicare. Wyden nearly single-handedly derailed the public option feature of the administration's health care reform proposals. Wyden was unavailable for comment on the Romney rumor. A neighbor at his home in the Eastmoreland section of Portland said the senator was not at home. "He was only here once," the neighbor said. "He didn't stay long." Wyden's wife and children live in New York City. http://bojack.org/2012/02/romney_considering_wyden_as_ru.html
Amusing, but yes, Wyden actually would make a good running mate for Mitt. And Wyden is not too pure to accept it. barfo
This is a joke. Picking a Democrat for a running mate would be suicide for Romney. He already has enough problems with conservatives; this would be the final nail in the coffin.
If the conservatives want to win, its high time they have an open mind. Otherwise it's another 4 years of Obama, Bottom Line. GOP has really failed at putting it's best feet forward this season, and they should be willing to do whatever it takes to turn it around.
I see your point, but Romney is a moderate and Wyden a liberal. How does that bode for people who want to return to a conservative base?
So I email my buddy who is very close to Wyden and helped him get where he is. I jokingly asking him if I could expect him to be in the White House if this happens. Here is his response: I promise you, for many reasons, this WILL NEVER HAPPEN
That's what they want you to think... even now, in the secret headquarters built beneath the site of the WTC, the Rockefellers are printing thousands of Romney/Wyden bumper stickers. barfo
The quickest way to quiet any speculation is to put out a press release ASAP that is a flat-out denial. I believe what your buddy says, but there is one sure-fire way to shoot down this rumor, and that is to fully support Barack Obama with a public statement/press release. Anyhow, this is obviously satire/Onion-esque. "The Jew thing will cancel out the Mormon thing." LOL
Exactly. Why bother voting if there isn't much of a difference between the tickets? If Romney picked Wyden, conservatives would stay home in droves on election night, virtually handing Obama the election.
The author of this story should have used Barney Frank, which would be more believable since Frank collaborated with Romney on RomneyCare. Plus, it would also take care of the "gay" and the "Jew" things.
