Re: QQQ Well of course Aldridge isn't a superstar. The modern NBA game is tailor-made for wings and face up big men who can handle the ball like a guard. What he is is a pretty good defensive player with a lot of versatility and the ability to command a double team and produce despite the collection of bricklayers that surround him (for the most part). His ceiling is probably around the level of play Pau achieved during the Lakers' title runs, but he still needs an elite shot-creating point guard or wing to play alongside of ... and a coach who can devise an offense that does more than get one guy off while everyone else becomes a defacto role-player.
Re: QQQ Wouldn't you think a "Melo-type" player would be a perfect compliment to Aldridge? Not saying that's even an option. Just for shits and giggles.
It isn't ridiculous to bring it up. It is ridiculous to suggest it with absolutely nothing to support it other than "his game is predictable" or "other start players have been traded".
Re: QQQ No, I think Melo is a chucking black-hole who has only marginal interest in playing defense. If you want a running mate who can win a title with LA think less Melo and more prime and healthy Ginobli.
What's "ridiculous" is you simplifying my argument to those two points. It's also very dishonest, but then why should I be surprised? For the record, I also stated that Aldridge is soft, a mediocre rebounder, and not a natural leader. At the same time, I don't discount the fact that he's an excellent offensive player. All things being equal, I wouldn't mind having him on my team. But when he's your biggest bargaining chip, you have to consider what you could get back for him.
Re: QQQ One example?? Are you kidding me? You make a blanket statement about multiple GMs getting fired, and then all you can provide is one example? SlyPokerDog is a joke.
Re: QQQ Oh you want more? I quickly found that one just to appease you. Here's a few more. McKale got fired immediately after he traded KG Trading Jabbar chain reaction to change of ownership Also, the GM was fired the year after. http://www.cbssports.com/u/ce/feature/0,1518,1422176_54,00.html Charlotte Hornets traded Zo, Kobe and Larry Johnson. GM was fired the following year. I did all of this in less than 10 minutes. Would you like more examples? Why Is SlyPokerDog such a joke?
For the record . . . Wayne Embry traded Jabbar to the Lakers and was not fired. Joe Axelson traded Oscar Robertson to Milwaukee and was not fired. Kevin McHale traded Kevin Garnett to Boston, and was not fired. Bob McAdoo was traded a total of 5 times in his career, and none of the GMs responsible were fired.
Also, look on the brightside. There is absolutely no GM for the Blazers that can be fired for trading Aldridge (unless Allen wants to double-fire KP for drafting LA in the first place).
McHale was fired. Are you reading the links? And yeah the GM wasn't fired, but ownership bolted. What's worse? LOL
Re: QQQ Do you even look at what you post? The link you provided directly contradicts your claims. It states that Garnett was traded in July of 2007, and that McHale continued to be the Minnesota GM for another 18 months. He resigned the GM job to be head coach, and finally left the organization in June of 2009, almost two years after the Garnett trade. SlyPokerDog is still a joke, my friend. Sly is. See above. You might also take a look at my previous post, which shows that most of the GMs responsible for the trades I mentioned DID NOT lose their jobs because of it.
Re: QQQ Well you calling me a joke is a compliment considering this thread LOL. And I said several GMs were fired; which I gave; even excluding the Minny McKale fiasco. LOL And everyone called McKale an idiot GM, so that tops the cake on that strawman you are trying to pull. Fact... Several GMs were fired for trading away their superstar; which I gave links on; which makes my statement true.
Re: QQQ So which team would you trade us to? Miami? Minnesota? Lakers? Spurs? Thunder? Who has the best Coach & GM combo in the NBA currently?
