He could have gone home to Wisconsin. You can't get more simple than that.

I love the vanilla gorilla... freaking heart, and toughness this team sorely lacked...

I thought he was choosing between Miami, Milwaukee, Chicago and Portland. Could be wrong. Though I know I read/heard that somewhere.

He and Steve Kerr are my two all-time favorite role players.

Huh. I suddenly realized I'm probably racist.

I wanted him to go to Chicago or Miami because I wanted what was best for him. Coming back the Blazers while it was imploding like a submarine that's gone too deep just didn't seem fair to him as a last chapter of his career.

back when he suffered the ruptured patella injury for the 2nd time (3-7-2010) , docs put a timetable on him making it back to the court in about a year but not getting his full mobility for at least a year later. Probably related in part to the lingering effects of the injury, he doesn't seem in as good of shape as he was prior. I'd expect him to be a better player next year.

Terms of his contract weren't disclosed... was it just through this season?

Storyteller & ESPN both list it as just a one year Vet's Minimum deal. I hope the Blazers sign him to a bigger deal this summer...after adding a major player using their cap space, of course. :)

I have a feeling that we make our push for 1 free agent and then we resign pryzbilla. Then thabeet or Flynn will be resigned.

I'm hoping it's Flynn that pans out since the draft doesn't really have too many marquee pgs. Thabeet height and toughness can be had in the top 10 in this years draft.

Thanks for answering my question. I know that some will react cynically at this suggestion, but I'd love to see two Joels in the Blazers frontcourt next season. In the past dollars and PT were said to stand in the way of Freeland finally coming over. But his rookie contract period is now over allowing the Blazers to offer him whatever they might feel he's worth and certainly there looks to be a big role available if he's worthy. Neither Joel would be free but even together they shouldn't break the bank... Nic will probably cost more then those two.

Blazer fans disagree on a lot of things, but we're probably as united on wanting a PG upgrade as anything. They'll make a play for someone, but I'm guessing it will come via trade rather then Free Agency.... lotto picks are a great currency.

I sure hope vanilla does this same shit to Perkins tomorrow night. I want pryzbilla to protect Aldridge. Get in his face big fella!

I guess I was referring more to the People and the current state of the organization. Joel deserves so so so much better.

But if he's happy in Portland, I'm happy for him. With Camby gone, he's starting again, and if the team continues to play hard and compete, I think he'll be content with his choice.

At the very least, what a tremendous role model he is for these young players. He teaches them to play hard, play tough and never back down.

I don't label Joel as one that just wants to ride success. I see him as more of a player that loves challenge. Loves to be the underdog and prevail. I think coming to Portland was just as exactly what he wanted. I don't think for a moment that he regretted coming to Portland. Not for a second...

I hear ya guys. And I dont peg Joel as a follower either. If he is happy here, I am happy for him. I guess my mind is computing it (in a weird way) as a really good, super loyal friend, who has a really sh*tty girlfriend. You want him to be happy, but he deserves better. I dunno hard to explain.

Joel is a competitor, and I'm sure he wasn't pleased wit the way the team was playing prior to the trades and coaching change. No one with pride wants to get their ass handed to them by the Lakers, Celtics and Knicks, let alone Minnesota twice within a week.

But, with the way the team competed last night, you could just see the old Joel was back. That's his kind of basketball, play hard, overachieve and back down to no one. Our roster is very thin talent wise after the trades, but as long as they are playing hard and trying to win, I think that will be enough to keep Joel happy.
