It's not Obama's fault that the kid died. It's well-established that it's Jeb Bush's fault.

crandc is a perpetual victim, and has been since she started posting on ESPN in the late '90s. Quite obviously, this shooting has nothing to do with a white guy hunting down some black guy, based on all of the information, both firsthand accounts and by blacks who are sticking up for Zimmerman that know him.

The President basically put a bounty on this guy's head, and then disappears when the narrative doesn't fit the racist template he was trying to create. All but the true Obama sycophants should see this for what it is, and I can't imagine it's going to get him the votes he thought it would when he first read the name "George Zimmerman". The worst part about it is that his handlers planned this trip to Florida for one reason, and Obama only took one question after his little speech. Gee, what a surprise, it was about Trayvon Martin. I'm sure many of the media there were wondering who the hell that was, and why it was the only question Obama took from the media.

Well, it's not hard to figure out why, is it?

Shut up Little Limbaugh. Clearly Zimmerman is a racist who just wants to shoot black kids with hoodies. :MARIS61:

I haven't read anything on the other cases, but I keep seeing people bring up this KC one in comments on this story. They are not the same situation at all. In one, the police are ACTIVELY searching for the suspects of a crime that did not end up in anyone being killed (not saying the crime wasn't horrible). The article you posted has a description of them and a hotline to call if you have any information. In the other case, the police KNOW who killed Trayvon. They KNOW he has a history of paranoia They KNOW he was warned/advised not to pursue. And they KNOW he didn't listen to their advice. They don't know anything else concretely. And yet they chose not to arrest or even question Zimmerman. And they wouldn't allow the parents to hear the 911 tapes because it may interfere with their investigation, the same one that was so cut and dry that they didn't question the man with the gun.

The fact that he Trayvon was killed is awful. It doesn't matter that he was suspended from school or that he may or may not have stolen jewelry before. He had a right to walk home in that neighborhood and it was Zimmerman's actions that escalated the situation. But the coverup/sweeping under the rug of the case is what everyone is upset with. If a black man shoots a white man, I expect justice. I also expect the same justice if the victim is black (or any other race).

Maybe Zimmerman is innocent, maybe he's guilty. The basic fact that the kid was shot and killed demands an arrest and it's the courts' place to determine guilt/innocence and any penalty.

It can't be any simpler or obvious than that.

I thought you were against infinite detention.

There are no charges and the police had nothing to charge him with since he apparently acted out of self-defense. You said it yourself, maybe he's innocent, maybe he's guilty. And you say that they should arrest him anyway? Ridiculous and a gross violation of his civil rights.

They had to let him go, they conducted their investigation and it wasn't "closed" by any means by the time the media started running with it.

I can't prove it, obviously, but I suspect that Zimmerman wouldn't have been so aggressive (against the suggestion of the police dispatcher), if he hadn't been packing heat. I seriously doubt that the kid just turned and attacked without provocation. Zimmerman was part of a neighborhood watch group, not a neighborhood guerrilla militia guard. After notifying police of a "suspicious person" in his gated community, he should have stayed put in his car and let the cops handle the rest. I moved to Florida (by family necessity not because I wanted to) shorty before the Stand Your Ground law came into effect. At the time it was referred to as the Yee-Haw! law and I still feel that way. I can almost picture Zimmerman following this guy and haranguing him, feeling all Death Wish/Dirty Harry/Yippie-Kai-Yea, MF'er until the kid had enough and turned on him. Not an excuse for the kid turning but I think it was Zimmerman and his gun muscle that provoked an incident that probably would have ended peacefully with a little patience for the police to arrive. Admittedly, there is some speculation here but that's the best I can sort out. My 2 cents.

According to Zimmerman's account, he had lost track of Martin, who then re-engaged him.

It doesn't matter. It is the police's action, or lack there of, that is the real issue. They have facts that he is paranoid (something like 40 911 calls), that he was warned not to follow and that he killed an unarmed minor. Anything else is just his word, which shouldn't be taken as gospel since if guilty he has plenty of reason to lie. I can guarantee if the victim was white and the shooter was black, he would have been arrested, or at least taken to the police station for questioning. That is where the outrage is coming from.

    Yeah, lame idea.

Black men in American do not trust the police. And for good historical and continuing reasons.

Add in typical teenage rebellion to the mix of this punky kid, and your idea is worthless.

911 was already on the phone. 911 had already dispatched the police. 911 had already told Zimmerman to stop pursuit.

He was questioned, and a photo was taken of him

Why bother with the legal system when we can just have the President of the USA advocated mob justice?

The last 8 words in your last sentence make me give a face palm to The Constitution and the way the 2nd Amendment has been interpreted.

Don't get me wrong -- I am generally a fan of The Constitution but the 2nd Amendment was poorly drafted, inserted in The Bill of Rights with little, if any, debate and related to times when men were called to duty and expected to bring their own rifle -- a point really made moot by the adoption of a standing army, which the Founding Fathers opposed. To suggest that organized militias are to prevent US tyranny is in a way saying the 2nd Amendment encourages sedition. Clearly, that isn't the state of the law either.

Despite the current conservative's recent plurality decisions, there is by plain language (as plain as the gnarled syntax of the Amendment can be) that the right to bear arms wasn't meant to allow people to carry around guns "just in case" and shoot first, ask questions later (more applicable to the Home Castle firearm laws that Yee-Haw, although both share a great deal of similarity).

I firmly believe that given the domestic violence killings, gang killings, suicide by gun, armed robbery, accidental shooting by adults and children, "going postal" incidents like Columbine and so forth, that amendment has done far more harm than good. guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people (yeah, you can stab somebody or something but if you are carrying a gun its just quicker and easier and harder to defend against).

The Constitution is and always has been a work in progress. That same document allowed for slavery, counted slaves as 3/5 of a person for counting representatives, didn't allow women to vote, established and abolished prohibition, didn't apply the Bill of Rights to the States until the 14th Amendment Due Process clause, etc. I'm not a fan of the 2nd Amendment. I'd like to take Charlton Heston's gun out of his cold dead hands and ram it up his cold, dead ass.

Oh, and registering as a democrat doesn't necessarily exclude one from being a dumb-ass cracker.
    Anyhoo -- that's what I think.

Zimmerman did stop pursuit. According to witness, Martin punched Zimmerman in the face and started beating his head against he sidewalk.

Bad move. It sucks, but everything points to self-defense, and the President is a fucking moron for again inflaming racial tensions.

What lack of police action are you referring to specifically? The entire incident likely took place in less than a few minutes. There was no real evidence to arrest Zimmerman, like I said, you can't arrest or detain someone without charges. The fact that he called 911 a bunch of times isn't relevant. The fact that a 911 operator suggested he not follow a suspicious person is irrelevant. All that is relevant is who initiated the physical confrontation as it is the incident in question in which Martin was shot, and according to Zimmerman, it was Treyvon Martin who attacked him after Martin had confronted him (Zimmerman claims to have lost Zimmerman and was walking back to his car).

The police can't just go around arresting people without evidence based on 911 records they don't have at that time.

They got a statement from him, they did not close their investigation. What else are you looking for here? You want the police to arrest Martin without any charges or evidence against him, just the fact that someone was killed during a confrontation?

Zimmerman isn't white, and he was questioned by the police. Police even got statements from eyewitnesses.

I really wish people would actually read up on this case before giving ignorant opinions. It serves nothing but to further divide people, which I suppose was Barry Obama's plan, anyhow.

You need to realize something very important.

Zimmerman admitted to the police to shooting and killing an unarmed man.

That is possibly murder. In the U.S. we lock people up for a VERY VERY long time compared to other countries for the same crimes.

Zimmerman has every motivation in the world to claim he acted in self-defense.

He could be telling the truth. But, it is the job of the police in an investigation like this to assume every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie.
