I like him, I think he has a good feel for the game, but I just don't see much of a scoring ability. Maybe it's because he's still being tentative, but the guy doesn't seem to have a go-to-move on offense. I love that he looks to pass, and he does a great job of finding the guys on the perimeter, but that's not really any different than what Sergio did. Passing is great, but you have to be able to keep the defense honest. If he can't get in the lane and score, or hit the mid-range J consistently, I don't think he has much of a future in the league.
He can get in the lane, but he's not a great finisher. For now, he is what he is, a capable backup (although better than Felton). There's hope obviously that he improves his game over the summer. The easiest thing for him to do is to get a jump shot. If he can hit three's at a 36-38% clip, it makes him so much more dangerous.
Well, I've said it before, but I don't think he will be here next year. I figure he'll sign somewhere closer to home or for more money. I don't think we'll have much of anything to offer the guy if we're able to throw our space at some decent free agents.
I think it's likely he will always be a crappy finisher -- he just doesn't have the size, build and leaping ability to be otherwise. Like B-Roy says, his best bet is to try and become a knock-down outside shooter or develop some kind of floater as his go-to scoring move. I'd be shocked if he ever averaged more than 42% from the floor in any given season. All that said I still like his feel for the game and court vision: his passes are on point, he doesn't seem to force things and he seems to have a pretty good intuitive feel for how to set his teammates up in a way that they can take a good rhythm shot. Probably would be a great backup to have going forward.
How much money do you think Flynn will get? His stock probably isn't that high. I think he's better at running the offense and controlling the ball than Felton or Smith. We know he can also take it to the hoop, but we just haven't seen him finish much. But he's been penetrating and finding open shooters. As long as the offence is producing, your PG is doing his job, and I think the bench has looked pretty good under Flynn's reign.
I would like to keep him around, simply because he's young and he has potential.... but I guess we'll have to see if there's money left over or if he's interested in re-signing here.
For all the good Flynn does setting an offense, his defense is pretty fucking horrible ... I'd have serious concerns if he was on the floor 35+ minutes a night. He looks like a great 15-20 minute guy though. Frankly, I don't see the offers being great this summer, He was terrible in Houston, he's got the hip injury history and despite some nice games as a reserve since he got to Portland his resume' is pretty thin. He looks a whole lot like a 3 million/year guy to me.
I don't know, his build is pretty similar to Chris Paul and Ty Lawson's. He just needs to add a bit more bulk.
I don't think finishing ability can be acquired in the gym or on the court. It's usually something a player just has. Allen Iverson was only 6' but he was an amazing finisher. Damon Stoudamire was a terrible finisher. I don't know if it's because of fear, or just natural athletic ability, but some players have it and some don't.
That's a comparison I've been making, too. To the rookie (pre-McMillan) Sergio. Before Sergio got all inhibited. Same player.
If you can't hit a jumper or play (at least) average defense, then you probably won't stay in the league.
Why would Felton want to be a backup? If we get DWill we won't be able to afford anyone else. That's why I'm hoping we draft Kendall Marshall.
Are you talking about Flynn? Then yes, I agree he'd probably make a decent backup to either of those guys. If Felton, then I'd ask you to kindly GTFO.
