Drummond's Per 40 stat line: Thabeet's Per 40 Stat Line (Freshman & Junior years): 53.8% FG ` 55.4% ` 64.0% 29.5% FT ` 51.3% ` 62.7% 10.6 ` RB/g ` 10.4 ` 13.6 3.8 ` Block/g ` 6.2 ` 5.3 14.1 ` Pnt/g ` 10.1 ` 17.1 21.8 ` PER ` 18.0 ` 28.9 10.5 ` WS/40 ` 10.2 ` 17.0 Comparing their stats, Drummond's & Thabeet's freshman seasons are similar. Thabeet's junior year, he is much improved. I have not seen anything to make me think Drummond's floor is any higher than Thanbeet. When you watched UConn this year, you would go long stretches where you would forget that Drummond was even on the floor. That is NOT a quality I want from a top 10 pick.
Forget college stats for a second, because when you compare Thabeet and Drummond you are talking about two completely different caliber of athletes. Thabeet was/is slow as hell but had such fantastic height and length he could compensate in the college game because there was no 3 second violation and no semi-circle under the hoop. Drummond did disappear at times and definitely has a long ways to go, but he's got the movement skills and baseline athleticism you look for in a lotto pick big man. Whether or not Drummond ever achieves his potential is an open question, but using college stats to compare him to Thabeet is pretty thin.
