We should offer a draft day deal for him. The trade could be agreed to on draft day but officially go through on July 1st when Shawne Williams contract is tradeable.

    Wesley/Thomas/Nolan/Williams/ #11.

It will cost us little cap room since we send out a number of small expiring salaries. Gay is a massive upgrade over Wesley. Yes he is overpaid but he is worth the incremental cost over a midlevel player such as Wes. Gay is a known commodity instead of the crapshoot of a pick panning out at #11. He is a contributor now instead of being many years away from his peak, we need to assemble talent while LaMarcus is still in his prime. He could be available since Memphis is near the luxury tax, they would then get the benefit of being able to afford OJ Mayo long term. Gay would have a bad ass Blazer jersey ;)

Gay would form a talented young trio along with LaMarcus and Batum, a group that could grow together for years as Olshey has alluded to. We would still have the #6 pick and cap room to find a big man and PG this offseason.

    He's ghey, so no.

For the record, I do that deal in a heartbeat and eight times over. So I imagine Memphis wouldn't.

i'd do it just to rock the jersey. would be awesome if he wore #1. :MARIS61:

I'm not sure what the new Memphis ownership stance is on contracts. I'm thinking they want a core to build and he obviously has money. He's a young guy who is a basketball junkie from what I read so I doubt he'll firesale Gay just to save some luxury tax dollars unless there is a chance to upgrade the team.

Gay is not worth his contract esp with the new CBA. Id rather have Batum at 9m then Gay at 15m.
no way we can afford both gay and batum.

    Meh, no thanks.

With the new CBA there's no way I'd take on his contract.

Would much rather use the cap on a PG.

with this new CBA we shouldn't take on a guy who is on a horrible contract unless it ends fairly quickly, Gays got 4 more years and on top of that i don't think he is an allstar caliber SF.

I'd rather keep the space and sign a PG or try and trade for Okafor and #10....

I woud do that deal, but know that MEM likely would not....

I view Rudy Gay as a #3 type guy, a scorer who needs to work on providing more than just that....If you did a deal like this, I doubt you would bring Batum back at $10-11mil...

You realize that his proposal had over $10M in outgoing salary, right? And factoring in the pick and the assumption that we wouldn't be keeping Batum, our cap situation would actually improve.

    Matthews(6.5M)+Williams(3.1M)+Smith(1.3M)+Thomas(1.3M)+#11 pick(1.7M)+Batum's hold(5.3M)=19.2M. Rudy Gay=16.4M.

Now, if you want to argue that Matthews+Batum+#11 is more overall talent than Gay--sure, no problem. But pointing to this offseason's cap space is a fallacious argument.

I'd actually prefer to keep Batum, play him at the 2 and Gay at the 3. If BPA at 6 is Drummond, grab him, if it is Barnes, see if you can swap down.

people are crying over bringing back Batum at 10m even if he can turn into a legit #3 guy but your fine with paying a #3 guy a max deal ,who couldnt abuse subpar players not known for being able to guard a chair, in the playoffs.
I am not a gay fan and see him as a glorified chucker.

if you want to use the #11 pick and filler for a player id go lowry while keeping batum.

The more I look at the draft id rather keep the pick and have a cheap kendall marshall, pj3, sullinger, meyers leonard or austin rivers
