Nash wouldn't make us much more likely to beat OKC or Miami, so I don't really understand this. I'm a fan of the Blazers, and always will be. How good other teams are doesn't change that in the slightest.

Well, neither would any guy we drafted (unless we move to top 3) or any free agent we get that isn't a top 10 player in the league.

What a Nash signing will do is put a smart veteran presence, high basketball IQ and leadership back on the team. look at the team in the beginning of the season...we were winning and people were saying we were a darkhorse for the NBA finals.....and...then inconsistency happened. A guy like nash addresses those inconsistencies

I don't think you got my point.. It wasn't how much better it would make us. My point was that adding, or not adding, Steve Nash would neither increase nor decrease my desire to watch or talk about the Blazers.

Have you ever watched Steve Nash play? He's a delight to see on the court.

You need a veteran player to teach and mold your young guys. We get 2-3 guys in this draft, add Freeland, re-sign Bat, JJ.... Well be young. Who better than to learn the nuances of the craft from? OKC didn't sign Fisher for his on-the-court talent.

Just sign the best, Nash and Sloan. If they fail, start over a season later. The Celtics got old stars and it's kept them elite for 5 years.

Stop being so picky about how young they have to be.

Yup. Rebuilding is not a "process". If you make it one, you'll always remain mediocre. It happens quickly. Gamble like a motherfucker, if it doesn't work, blow it up and try again.

The nice thing about getting old stars is that you give them 1 year, not 5, before dumping them and starting over. In the 5 years you could have given young guys, you get 5 separate tries with old guys.

One of those tries works, the team becomes desirable to FAs, and soon you have young guys too.

what's this, your're "back in" if we get Nash? WTF is this about, are you a fan or not or just a fair weather one?

Signing Nash may well become our best course of action. Houston is likely to retain Dragic, Deron Williams has always been an extreme longshot. Lin is a risk because he was such a flash in the pan, and NY is more likely to keep him now the early bird rights.

If we sign Nash, and draft a PG to sit behind him a couple of years, it could really work out well.

I like the Nash idea overall but I have one concern, He'd be great as a mentor/teacher espcially if we go the rebuild route which it seems we area. He only costs us capspace which we very possibly might not use much of otherwise to avoid overpaying for someone. However Nash could cost is a top 5 or much worse pick (or even lose the pick) in next year's draft because he does make us a lot better IMO. Is my concern out of whack or valid?

I don't think it's "out of whack" but from what I've read next year could be the best time to lose that pick as the draft sounds to be pretty weak outside the top 3. Even without Nash I doubt we are bottom 3 bad next year.

i'd say being concerned about tanking before the season starts is maybe just a little out of whack : )

I love the idea of having a proven vet to show a young point guard how to play in the NBA. It's said every year that it's the most difficult position to learn for a rookie.

Except the majority of good PGs in the league don't learn the position that way.

Yea most of them are given pretty much free reign to screw up their first two years. Its why we never had an above avg point guard tell Miller under McMillian.

Without cap holds, Toronto has ~$42M committed salaries, Portland has ~$35M, and Phoenix has ~$32M (and his bird rights).

He's not looking to chase a ring on the cheap, he's looking for a big payday.

Seems like he wants to be on a playoff team as well as get a decent payday. Two of those three teams are likely a 7-8th seed with him.
