Got to go with Clyde for reasons others have said. But there have been other success stories, Jerome & Cliffy in the second round, Porter at 24 all late picks who were big impact players on the team.
The problem is that the question is poorly worded. Is "Best" the best player for the team, or the craftiest pick given it's position. I will agree with Clyde; with Porter in second place. Let's not forget that if it weren't for a guy named Michael (as in best player ever), Clyde would have as many titles as Walton.
Good points. If Sabonis had come right over, I think he would win this vote running away. It would be a combination of titles won and getting him with a low pick.
If Sabonis had come right over, Drexler AND Sabonis would have had 5 rings. What a ridiculous dynasty that would have been.
I keep having nightmares/dreams of Sabonis running Adelman's motion offense with TP, Clyde, Buck and Jerome. We would still likely have had Duckworth as well
How does this make any sense? Sabonis was taken 24th and had great years for us. If the ussr werent a bunch of d-bags, he would have been able to play just as well, probably better. Oden is a douche taken at #1 who hates us.
You serious? How does it make sense to base your answer on what ifs? The fact of the matter is he didn't come over in his prime, so voting for Sabonis makes as much sense as voting for Oden.
The guy was picked 24 & still produced when he did finally arive. Big difference over being taken #1 and being a total douche who left the team, didnt want to play for us became an alcoholic and hates portland.
Hahaha... Whatever, I don't care enough to argue. If you truly think, with hindsight being 20/20, that the Sabonis pick was the best in team history, more power to you.
And Lucy Harris (only woman ever drafted by an NBA team), Bruce Jenner, Bubba Smith. Check out this short article on NBA Draft Oddities. BNM
You act as if Sabonis was a surprise find at 24. He was drafted there because everyone knew it would take years if ever to bring him over, caused by U.S. Immigration reluctance due to the newness to all this.
Ok, I will settle this once and for all. Re: What is the best draft pick in the history of the Blazers? The one we did not take. /thread
