That's old CBA pricing, though. $15M for a good but not great player is a path toward an inflexible roster for 2-3 years.
Got me all excited since someone posted indy wouldnt match from chris broussard on http://www.basketballforum.com/nba-...-hibbert-sign-max-offer-sheet-portland-2.html but looks like the poster made it up
A seven footer who does all these things shot blocking, rebounding, defending, scoring, taking up space, impacting the game defensively. I'm fine tyeing my money up with. How many of those are in the league
Yes, but you sign Batum first, you can't sign Hibbert. So Blazers need to make sure they'll know on Hibbert first. If Minne is offering $12 million per, you tell him you'll match but please don't sign offer sheet. We want to pay him and improve the team. That's his point.
It's a timing thing though... If we had to match Nic's offer first (say he signed just before Roy did), that could put us over the cap, where we wouldn't be able to offer Roy his max deal. Roy would need to sign "first". To answer the original 'what if' - if they both signed "at the same time" I would imagine, given the spirit of the rule (providing the 'home' team the greatest ability to hang onto its players) that we'd still get some sort of right of refusal for Nic. Nic signing first outright however, could be bad news - unless we could somehow talk KP and Donnie into waiving their 72 hours on Roy...
im talking about timing wise if they need to sign hibbert first, but then dont have time to match batum
I have a feeling that even if we do land Hibbert........ Paul won't let Nic get away! He loves Nic more then he loved Miles!
Hibbert is a great addition to take the heat off of LA, as for Batum..... he's fools gold for 12 mill a year! I really don't see much difference between Batum and Darius Miles......
He's fine and the contract as icing on the cake. But not at the cost of cap space you have now to use. You build your team with guys you know who will deliver. Pillars if you will. This GM has anointed Nic a pillar in the mold of Chris Paul. Which is concerning. He will never, ever, ever, ever deliver in the way Chris Paul delivers. If I'm going to tie my money up on a player. I'm going to tie my money up on substance not the lack of. Nic has yet to prove that he is what you all say he is. And we are going to pay him as a franchise player. Would not even consider it.
