Why isn't it "very good"? He has a reliable shot out to 15'. It's not like he's Joel Przybilla and shoots nothing but putbacks and dunks. Have you ever actually watched Hibbert play? He could average 20ppg on a team that featured him offensively. He has a very good face-up game. Who would you prefer be our center the next 5 years? And how do yphi suggest we get him? Furthermore, if we don't spend the money on Hibbert, what available All Star player would you rather offer the money to?
sorry about that, I was laughing so hard when I posted that. I have to commend you on you fantasitc humor
Yes I've seen him play And as I said during the playoffs as the games were happening and watching them I would laugh at any team that gave him a MAX contract
I think this is a great move. We've got the cap space and there aren't a lot of other options out there. At least we've got a shot at him. If Indy matches, so what. What do we lose? Who else would you go after right now? Deron isn't coming here. Nash is too old. Gordon is a RFA as well, so it's pretty much the same thing with him. I like the signing. He fits the window, he's a legit center and he's an All-Star. Solid move. If they match, so what. We tried.
I guess Im looking at this from a little different perspective, I really could give a crap what title is put on it whether its "max" "MAX" or "SUPERSTUPENDOUSMAX" What it comes down to me is I would be willing to pay him 4 years $48 mil. The length of the contract is good, he fills a need for our team (size, rebounding and defensive presense) and compliments LMA almost perfectly. So im with you. Unless you can find a better available player with that criteria then I like the offer. At some point you have to go the extra mile to win. Its not we are overpaying an over the hill aging veteran here. Its a real possibilty that he could get even better.
Well, if you've seen him play, you wouldn't make an idiotic post referring to his FG% as if it matters. He plays pick and pop quite often. What a match-up nightmare, being able to PnR with both LMA and Hibbert as screeners.
I love the idea of adding Hibbert. Seems like a perfect complement to Aldridge--a lunch pail defensive player who can also score a little. He's the Tyson Chandler to Aldridge's Dirk. If we can keep Batum too, we'll have a really formidable defensive front line. Really, of our 6 best players only Lillard projects to be a below-average defender, and I say that about him only because he's never played against NBA competition.
Yes, that's exactly my point. The term "MAX money" is rather meaningless...maximum contracts, at any given point, vary by service time. What matters is the actual terms of the deal...money and years. The max that Hibbert is in line for, I believe, is about $15 million average annual value (it'll be cheaper at the start and then escalate) over four years. I don't think that's a significant overpay for a good young two-way center who can be dominant on one end (defense), rebounds and still may have some upside left.
The point is, you don't throw franchise player money at a guy that can't impact the game at a franchise player level, just because there aren't better options. Otherwise, you quickly find yourself cap-strapped and unable to improve the roster elsewhere.
