5th year would be nice but if all he gets is a 4 year deal that still makes him in the middle of his prime when his next contract will be signed. Not a bad place to be in and really makes that 5th year meaningless.

injuries can happen, and any agent not trying to get his client an extra DOZEN MILLION DOLLARS is an idiot

injuries can happen but to live in fear of injuries is not the way to go through life. an extra year versus an extra few million, i'd take the cash!

    5 years x $10m = $50m
    4 years x $12m = $48m

After taxes, it isn't that much of a difference, and Portland would be yet again negotiating against themselves, just like with Darius Miles.

Unless you're advocating 5 years x $12m = $60m? If people are uncomfortable with $48m, how does adding an extra year help alleviate those concerns? Could Nic be convinced to take a player/team option on year 5?

    wow cool

except i never said anything about ten million dollars

ahh so your imaginary numbers mean something now, interesting

    wtf

i wasnt advocating a thing, if you could be bothered to read a whole 5 posts ago, i was saying batums agent is a fool for refusing to negotiate, he is basically taking the chance of a 5 year deal completely off the table

you would think an agent would be interested in getting his client the highest possible amount of guaranteed money, apparently that makes no sense to you

i think nic would be estatic to get a 5 year deal with a player option

team option not so much, but if the money was right, maybe so

The Nets sure seem like a terrible organization. I have no idea why Deron would want to stay there.

I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
    These little town blues
    Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
    In old New York
If I can make it there
    I'll make it anywhere
    New York, New York.

Brooklyn isn't really "New York", though. Same deal as playing in New Jersey, basically. Manhattan is NYC, as far as being a cosmopolitan city, and the greatest city in the world.

Brooklyn is Brooklyn, and not the "city", in terms of the NYC thought process. If you're not in the "city", you may as well be on Long Island or New Jersey. Or hell, even in Queens. :)

True, but is Gerald Wallace going to take the subway from Manhattan to Brooklyn for games?

Maybe Dwill is going to get a ton of money under the table. Its been tossed around a lot but it could actually happen with overseas accounts.

    You guys haven't mentioned

    1) Wallace is a much better player than Batum. It was no contest as to who should start here. They have opposite oncourt personalities, alpha male vs the kid hiding in the corners hoping not to be seen. After all these years of Batum in the NBA, it's too hopeful to think he'll become as good as Wallace, even the one of the present, much less the Wallace in his prime.

    2) The Nets got Wallace because Orlando likes him. The 2 teams have discussed the Howard trade ad nauseum. To lowball Wallace now would be to abandon their Howard hopes, and to have sacrificed the #6 pick for nothing.

That's just what you want a 30-year-old alpha male that doesn't realize he's broken down and has no jump shot to speak of. That's a lot of coin for a guy that can't play like he use to and has shown no ability to alter his game to this point. I loved GW and wanted in Portland for a long time, but everyone knows guys with his game tend to age very quickly and we saw that before our eyes here. I shutter to think what his game will be 3 years from now.

I was one of the guys who was ecstatic to get Wallace on our team, but last season was a huge disappointment and it's pretty obvious that he has fallen off quite a bit in the last few years. Pretty sad because he was one of my favorite non-Blazers for a long time. I loved his hustle and style of play.

This is exactly what I'm thinking too. I suspect they are going to try and toss Wallace, pick and Lopez for Howard. That maybe the way they can keep Deron Williams too.
