They are scrambling for a backup plan.

Or it could all be a smokescreen.

Why would they need a smokescreen? If anything it sends a negative message to Hibbert.

the only message they need to send to Hibbert is a "thanks, we're matching" or "have fun in Portland."

Kaman is bad and getting worse. We could snag an All-Star C at the top of his game and give up only cap room. That would go a long way to erase the bad taste of the Oden debacle from the fanbase.

I hate kaman. Would be fine at 5m a year but above that id rather give it to Hawes if we lose out on hibbert.

Or they could just be doing their due diligence to better understand the market for free agent centers. Perhaps they are 98% sold on matching Hibbert but want to make sure there are no better alternative ways to strategically construct their roster.

Yes I prefer Hawes to Kaman. If we did go for Kaman I would prefer a one year deal even if we have to grossly overpay him Kwame Brown style.

I believe Howard on this, because you can see him smiling during that interview, and then Van Gundy starts slinking away from him after realizing that Howard has no idea what is going on, and why there is a large group of media there.

It was awkward, but SVG yet again proved he can't deal with star players, and he not only cost himself a job, but he also ran Dwight Howard out of Orlando.

The Blazers should hire SVG, though. That makes sense. :MARIS61:

Marc J. Spears: Sixers guard Jrue Holiday added to USA select team roster. Holiday also is seeking a max contract extension from Sixers, source tells Yahoo!
How in the world does Jrue think he deserves max money? Him getting half a Max contract is still overpaying him.

D12 is determined to force his way to Brooklyn. He told Yahoo Sports that he would only re-sign with one team. What other team in their right mind would give up anything worth while knowing that D12 is gonna bolt the moment he can. Are the Magic in a position where they have to trade him to Brooklyn to get anything of value?
