There have been a few people asking what the Blazers plan B might be if Hibbert is matched, and what we, as posters, would do. I thought I would make a thread so people can bitch at others...er post what they would do.

    Here is mine

Let Batum walk for Martell Webster and a future 1st

    Sign Jason Thomspon

    Bring Freeland and Claver over

    Go young on the floor

    Lillard/Smith
    Matthews/Williams/Barton
    Babbitt/Webster/Claver
    Aldridge/Freeland
    Leonard/Thompson

    Lottery pick in 2013
    Minny pick in 2014

Trade Matthews for an expiring and late first

2013 salaries about 35 million with cap hold of lottery pick

Assuming the Blazers don't strike lottery gold, we pick 4th and land James McAdoo

We sign James Hardin to a max deal

    Lillard
    Harden
    McAdoo
    Aldridge
    Leonard

Might that be a pretty decent starting 5? I think so. Add in Thompson, Williams, Babbitt, Freeland, Claver, Barton, Smith and it's something to build on

Harden wont hit FA market, and we would be the last team he will come to

MM, one question, under the new CBA don't we have to have a salary this yr at 90% of the cap? that would be about 52 mil, even if it's 85% we would need to be at 49-50 mil and I am pretty sure 85% is the minimum this year at least.

I like the way you think MM.... but I would probably see if there was anywhere else Batum would want to go. I think Minny is merely a bargaining ploy as this point, and I highly doubt Nic ACTUALLY wants to play in bumfuck Minnesota. I'd see if there is anywhere else he wants to go and shop some other sign-and-trades. I'd try to aim for short or expiring deals and lotto picks.

I wouldn't sign anyone and I would try to squirrel away our cap space until next summer when we can go big or go home, plus we should get another good pick in the process. I like throwing money at Harden. Even if it takes us two or three years, it would still be in Aldridge's window. He's only, 26? He should just be coming into his prime in the next year or so.

Ya, you are right. My roster next year doesn't have enough salary. That shouldn't be an issue though because there are still roster spots to fill. Next year we would be at 48million with the players mentioned above. Easy to get to the cap number with vets for a year

yep, i just rechecked and it is 85% this yr and 90% next, but one-yr deals work fine to fill out roster

question on letting Batum go to Minny bu getting a sign and trade, would you prefer the Minny 1st or trying to get Derrick Williams? I think I'd prefer Williams/Ridnour if we could do it, they seem to be interested in signing some foreign huard who is Rubio's buddy so Rid is likely getable

I would say whatever provides us with the most cap flexibility next summer.

We need to add young talent and start building for the future, which is why I have always been open to trading LMA for the right price.

yeah, we've only been doing that for the last 9 years. we should totally expect different results while doing the same thing. draft picks and cap space! let the young players develop, then dump them for draft picks and cap space!

Can you name one other team that was built ("the right way") by trading away a top maybe 25 player, top 4 at his position, just entering his prime, to add draft picks?

Portland when they traded ZBO for imaginary cap space! He later became an allstar and got past the first round of the playoffs, but that's besides the point.

    :MARIS61:

and don't teams like the Clippers, Charlotte, etc do that all the time?

My plan B: Curl into fetal position and cry

... which, I might add, is a better longterm solution than trading Lamarcus.

Utah did it when they traded for Deron Williams. Then again, they're never going to win a championship with their path. only way is to acquire superstars.

Sorry, meant to specify with Aldridge's situation. Not guys with a year left on a deal. Aldridge is locked in to us for 3 more years, so he's not even a flight risk, like Deron was. But yeah, utah did. We'll see how that goes for them. I was thinking more historically. Everyone talks about there seemingly only being one way for small market franchises to win, and part of their plan seems to be trading Aldridge, so I am really curious as to when it has ever worked for another before we commit to it.

I hope we don't have to go to a plan B.
