Sam Amick ‏@sam_amick Portland has finalized the buyout agreement with F Shawne Williams, per source. He was owed $3.1 million next season & joins free agent pool

So does this increase our cap space by the difference in what was owed and what the buyout was?

Yes and Shawne Williams jerseys are now half price at the Blazer fan store.

    Win-win!

So it should add an extra 1. something to the available money?

I don't think it did under the old CBA, but maybe that's changed?

Yes I belive that has always been the case... I wonder what his buyout was for?

We could've cut him and stretched his salary over 3 years saving cap room this offseason. But that would've possibly put us in a bad luxury tax position in 2 years with a harsh punitive tax so I'm glad instead he will be wiped from the books after this season.

If they stretch amnestied him it would give Portland about 2 million more in cap room

Now, Portland can match Batum whenever, and still have enough to sign Hibbert.

Are you sure? That takes a little pressure off in case something else comes up.

Not sure. How much was Hibberts max offer for in year 1?

Well, with the departure of Williams and Okur before him, this ushers in a new era in Blazerland. The team will have a whole different look next season.

    12.9 in the first year.

Though I read somewhere a comment about how Minnesota would have to waive Webster and Brad Miller to sign Batum to an offer sheet, and that they would have to clear waivers before they can use the space. So I believe the issue of timing, well, isn't an issue.

Isn't it only a 48 hour waiver period? All they'd really have to do is waive them by the 9th, no?

but with a moratorium on signings, I would imagine claiming someone on waivers would fall under a signing, so I would think they'd have to wait until the 11th, or rather the waivers wouldn't start until then. I could be wrong.
