Thinking more on it: the NBA this offseason has become even more split between the haves and have-nots. Add the Knicks in there because of Melo, Amare and Kidd (and Lin, if he pans out), and possibly the Celtics, just because Rondo-Pierce-Garnett is still pretty damn good. We need one more super-team in the West, so this has to happen. (I bet Dirk has already begged for it.)
Might as well just turn the NBA into the EPL. Just pick 10 superteams (Both LA's, Both NY's, Boston, Miami, OKC, and Chicago, Spurs, and ... well maybe the Mavs since they won the championship 2 years ago) and relegate everyone else. Actually I might kind of like that. At least then the Blazers would have something to play for (to make the superleague). Until then we can try to make the playoffs in the STDL (Super Team Developmental League).
I've always loved the idea of promotion/relegation, just because it's the only sure way to avoid tanking. However, it was pretty sobering to see that the two teams in Spain that won promotion to the ACB actually turned it down, because they didn't have the money to meet the requirements of being in the top league! But still: Nowitzki to San Antonio HAS to happen! The Spurs could even do a lopsided trade. And if the Spurs would give up Leonard AND Splitter, it would actually be a pretty damn good trade for Dallas.
