Agreed. But I want Joel back with or without the drafting of Leonard. Been saying it since we traded the guy. He's one of those guys that teaches toughness and the concept of team - he always has his mates' backs.

Yup, I always thought Joel was the driving force behind the culture and camaraderie that the Roy-Era Blazers had. He gave us that toughness and attitude, and I think developing that with this group of guys will be very important. I also think Przy will be crucial in helping Leonard harness his emotions and develop defensively.

I would have taken him at 6 and then would have done everything I could to move up to 7 or 8 to take Lillard. To me what was missing in this draft and has been since KP has been gone was a real lack of creativity.

I think Lillard would very likely have been there at 11. Toronto is planning on getting Nash and wanted a wing, Detroit wanted a center, NO wanted Rivers. Golden State is the only wild card, they might've considered Lillard at 7 but if they passed I think we would've got him at 11.

Barnes instead of the multi year project Leonard? Oh hell yes!

I totally agree. KP would maximize the value of each draft pick. Since then the Blazer draft scared, they are scared someone else will take Nolan Smith so we reach for him 18 picks early. They are scared we won't get Lillard so we take him much earlier then other teams. KP was finding ways to get the players we want at a valuable draft position. It takes risks to win a title. Playing it safe is a road towards mediocrity.

    Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

That's funny because IMO playin it safe would have been to take a "meh" forward who most think becomes an average starter in the NBA, at a position where we are likely ready to pay 10 mil per season to our SF we have - NIC. The risk IMO was taking a guy at a position of need who also was likely rated my most NBA guys as being at the same "tier' as barnes, that being Lillard. We will have our answer over the next few years.

Absolutely. Taking the #1 HS prospect of his class who went to UNC over a no-name PG from a no-name school is the definition of 'playing it safe'. Not 'playing it safe' is having the no-name PG from the no-name school rated at or above the UNC star, and then sticking to your evaluation and/or need and picking the no-name PG. Anybody remember how Barnes was a pre-season All-American as an incoming freshman at UNC? He obviously never lived up to the hype associated with him, and I think that can be viewed as a negative when looking at him as prospect.

In what world is drafting Lillard over Barnes "playing it safe"? Besides, passing on Barnes pretty much guarantees that Batum will be matched as a RFA.

I think KP's drafting is forever going to be impacted by taking Oden over Durant, and he'll shy away from guys with injury concerns.

Would rather have Lillad if he turns out to be a decent PG then barnes anyway since all of the good PG FA are gone and there isn't one thats on a better level then Lillard coming out next year.

    Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

    I think Barnes signed already....

Best hope for POR is to extract Derrick Williams out of MIN, in addition to a 1st round pick for Batum....

If we took Barnes we could've signed one of those free agent PG's silly.

To quote peeps who were worried we didn't maximize value.... I'm tempted to say we did.
