11.6 million a year covers a lot of sins.

And Rubio didn't want to play in Minneapolis. They get over it if they want to play in the Association.

oh god, how many years have we been waiting for Nic to take "that next step". he just isn't the player you want him to be. 11.5 is way too much, let him walk. he's not worth it.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

I have us at 5,665,289 left to spend. What am I missing? I have the 6 contract vets, the 2 1strounders at 120% scale, Barton with the rookie min, Claver and Freeland's signings, Hickson at 4M...and SWill's stretch. That leaves 5.2M (with the roster hold that would go away if we signed someone, so effectively 5.6M)

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

My calcs, assigning 11M to Batum and 4M to Hickson, assuming we renounce rights to Przybilla and the Rhino, put our current commitments for 12/13 at just over 50.9M. We should still have about 7M in cap room after we match.

Edit: adding in the extra 20% for the rooks (as mentioned by Brian) takes away about another 1.25M. So yeah, like BFW says, about 5.7M left.

meh, lets see if he can play like he does overseas, he wont be heald back by Nate this year. Its well worth the risk. Besides, give me a player that produces as well, that we could sign and play next season?

Not true. He said he prefers to play for Minnesota but won't be upset if he returns to Portland.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

rudy gay got a max deal coming off a lower PER than batum had last season. who are we hoping to get similar to batum that will be better over the next 4 years for significantly less money?

It is only a four year deal and we will have alot of rookies for that time. We will not have much else to spend our money on.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

There is risk, but I agree. Nic is still young and has shown flashes of very aggressive play, under a far less than optimal coach/system. He can really shoot the three, defend, move the ball, move without the ball, and has the ability to penetrate (if encouraged?). This might be overpaying, but he might step up and this could look like a bargain. Who knows, maybe the money will motivate him to take on a bigger leadership position. If Portland matches then I will be excited that we have some very talented young players. If not, then I will believe that they don't think Nic will ever reach that potential. At 23/24, I'm betting he can still step up and make it look like a bargain.

This will not be a bargain. 11.5 million per year for a guy that will never make an allstar team or contribute like an allstar.

I dont know, bud, I dont think we can get him for the same money, even if we pulled the rabbit out of the hat and was able to get him..but, I still like Nic at 23, with no stand in the corner blah game plan
