I don't think that 3 first rounders would have been good value (I'd rather keep an overpaid Batum)... but Williams is on a rookie deal, is younger than Batum, and has massive upside. If Portland could have acquired him, I think turning that down would be/have been a mistake.

I really doubt he was on the table... If so, Allen's pride is why he's not a Blazer.

Actually I don't doubt it, several reputable people are suggesting that this was on the table -- Hollinger for one.

Hollinger was going by what Bucher reported. Bucher had an "inside source" and I think Kahn/Ndiaye were feeding him this.

Glen Taylor has gone on record as saying Williams was not available. I believe that. I don't believe any of the news outlets on that matter.

Bottom line, we just could not offer enough in a S&T, so here we are with the offer sheet. I'm ok with either decision.

Nah. I think it's kind of short-sighted, but not that big a deal.

Well guys, I'm guessing Olshey matches right? It would be horrendous for him to come out in public saying he will and then not matching. Plus, if they weren't going to match, then they would have done a sign and trade. Looks like you guys get to keep Batum. Someone in an above post stated Pekovic was a UFA next year, but just to clarify, he is a RFA. Also, and I am asking this sincerely to someone who actually knows, what will your guys cap numbers look like after matching and having Batum @ 4 years/46.5 million for next offseason?

Also, I'm not trolling, I am just curious, do you guys think matching him is the smart move moving forward for your team? I think everyone agrees it is overpaying quite a bit. Do you think in the long run this puts Portland in a good spot to make it deep in the playoffs?

All of you have trolled, so why are you any different?

If he doesn't match. he can sell it by saying the offers for picks weren't there and he thinks it will hinder Minnesota, then make a lopsided deal with the cap room we would have

It's not smart or dumb. It's not crippling, so why not unless there is something out there better

Well as of right now, there's no doubt he'll be overpaid. That said, it's really not THAT terrible.

It's about the same as Gallinari's contract, who last year basically had the same averages as Batum, except Batum had higher shooting percentages. With Gallinari at $10.5M per year, it's easy for Batum and his agent to take that number to the Blazers considering statistically him and Nic are very similar. You figure at worst Nic should probably get $10M per just based on similar players and their contracts.

With an increased role this year Batum probably averages at least 15/5, and I'm guessing probably more than that.

By the end of his contract I think there's a chance he could very well be worth it.
