Not who do you think will be named Romney's running mate, but who would you like to see (if you are leaning toward Romney) or (if you're leaning toward President Obama) who do you think would be the best selection? I'll start. I don't think he'll be selected, but I would love to see Gov. Romney select Paul Ryan.

I read today that the short list is (supposedly) Portman, Pawlenty, and Jindal. Of the three, I guess I'd say P&P are safe picks who will add absolutely nothing to Romney, Jindal is a Sarah Palin hail mary pass which would mostly show that Romney is not optimistic about his chances. barfo
Yes, yes, and yes. But I'm not sure that he wants to sign up for it this year, when he might be able to be President after four more years of Obama in the White House. Ed O.
Condi Rice would be the smart choice. She would cut into Obama's black vote and really put the screws to the woman vote. Plus she's sharp, and is a true compassionate conservative, unlike the rest. I don't think Jindal has the national name recognition to make his nomination matter, although I think he's a smart politician who would do a decent job. Paul Ryan or Chris Christie would be a signal that the GOP has no visions of winning the election, and is just trying to build names for 2016.
On the other hand, she's never run for anything before. It's a big gamble to take someone who is not a politician and throw them onstage. Yes, she's been in government, but running for office is something different. barfo

Absolutely, that's part of her appeal. However, it's similar to Palin. Yes, she's an outsider. But because of that, you don't know quite what you are going to get. Do you want to swing for the fences? Romney probably does not, he's a very cautious man. barfo
The fact she was in Bush's administration would create a "she's corrupt" ad campaign and probably be successful. Plus, it would further the thinking that this is just a continuation of Bush/same old same old. As much as it sounds like I'm joking, I'd go with Palin. She is better now than she was in 08. Probably a little smarter when it comes to how to campaign. Although whoever they get, they need someone who isn't just an old white person. I don't think Rice would "split" the black vote. It's not like she's in the public eye and it's not like all black people go "ooh look...black person. me vote!"
I agree with Julius about Rice. Have any of you seen Rubio talk and talk policy? The guy is young, smart, hispanic, from a must-win state, and will likely help Romney cut into a considerable hispanic vote demographic (a dent from 80% obama to 78% could affect results in multiple states). Strategically, if Romney/Rubio were to win, he'd be in line to run as sitting VP in 8 years. If Romney/someone-else loses, Rubio would have to go up against a Mitch Daniels who should get the nomination.
