TRAIL BLAZERS ACQUIRE SASHA PAVLOVIC AND DRAFT PICKS FROM BOSTON IN THREE-TEAM TRADE
Portland sends draft rights to Jon Diebler to Houston

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired forward/guard Sasha Pavlovic, two 2013 second round draft picks and cash considerations from the Boston Celtics while sending the draft rights to guard Jon Diebler to the Houston Rockets as part of a three-team trade, it was announced today by General Manager Neil Olshey.

Pavlovic (6-7, 235) was acquired via a sign-and-trade with the Celtics.

“This trade is a continuation of our pursuit of assets, while at the same time helping to bolster our roster,” said Olshey. “We’re looking forward to adding Sasha Pavlovic’s veteran leadership to our squad. He’s a very experienced wing player that we feel can add depth to our rotation.”

Pavlovic, 28, has played nine NBA seasons with Utah, Cleveland, Minnesota, Dallas, New Orleans and Boston. He holds career averages of 5.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 15.8 minutes in 528 games (141 starts).

A native of Bar, Montenegro, Pavlovic spent last season with the Celtics, averaging 2.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 11.7 minutes in 45 games (seven starts). He averaged a career-high 9.0 points per game while shooting 40.5 percent from 3-point range as a member of the Cavaliers in 2006-07.

A member of Portland's 2012 NBA Summer League team, Diebler spent last season with Panionios of the Greek Basketball League, where he averaged a team-high 10.8 points to go with 3.5 rebounds and 25.6 minutes in 34 games. He shot 45.0 percent from 3-point distance and 84.6 percent from the foul line.

Diebler (6-6, 205) played four seasons at Ohio State from 2007-11, averaging 10.7 points (41.6% 3-PT), 2.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 32.5 minutes in 144 games (115 starts). The Big Ten's all-time leader in career 3-pointers made (374), Diebler shot 50.2 percent from beyond the arc as a senior in 2010-11.

Portland originally selected Diebler in the second round (51st overall pick) of the 2011 NBA Draft.

Pavlovic joins France’s Nicolas Batum, Spain’s Victor Claver and Great Britain’s Joel Freeland as the fourth international player on the Trail Blazers roster.

if both picks are from Boston, then the other pick they have is Charlotte's 2nd rounder, which is sure to be a pretty high 2nd. I don't believe Houston has their 2nd rounder, so that's likely where it is coming from. If so, even better. Most likely #31-35.

It was reported earlier that the "cash considerations" is $ to pay Pavlovic's salary. So, instead of thinking greed, think free player, or better yet think free roster spot. It won't cost us anything to cut Pavlovic (or Price for that matter) and get our 15th roster spot back.

So, we get to trade the rights to a guard for the rights to an SF, which is more likely to be useful in the short term, in addition to a 2nd rounder (possibly a high 2nd rounder)

Good point, but I think Pavlovic is worth keeping if we don't find another big. We need a back-up SF.

Pavlovic is better than Babbitt, hopefully Babs sees little to no court time this year.

Don't be a jerk, that's really rude. I hope Babbitt becomes a starter.... for the T-wolves.

Pavlovic's PER the last five seasons, in chronological order.

    7.2
    8.6
    5.4
    6.0
    6.7

I'll be shocked if Pavlovic makes the roster, considering Boston is paying his salary.

Another good day of work for Mr. Olshey. Now maybe we can bury the Suns in second rounders and Babbitt in exchange for Robin Lopez and call it an off-season.

You know, b/w the Felton trade (paying for Jeffries' salary) and this one (paying for Pavlovic), PA's gotta be getting close to the $3M limit you're allowed to bring in, right?

You know, it's funny...in January if you told someone here that we're getting rid of Felton, Crawford. Camby, Thomas and Diebler, and getting a Weber St. PG, a white American center, a 170#-shooting guard, Jared Jeffries, Sasha Pavlovic, 2 Greek dudes and selling a draft pick...I think a kahn-level meltdown would've occurred.

Olshey's pretty good at this gig so far.

Imagine if you had been told the day that Brandon retired and Greg had his 12th microfracture.

Is there a $3M limit in or a $3M limit out or both? I thought it was out only, but I am guessing you know much better than I. Also, do they offset the cash considerations you have received in? I.e. if you get $3M in at some point, can you then later have $6M going out so that net you had a net $3M out for the year?

you could only get 3M in, and 3M out. Can't sell something to get 3M, send out 6, then sell something for 6. I asked. ;)
