Two day suspension.. Not a big deal really. I'm anticipating PapaG coming back with a vengeance though. Even though they both posted in another thread under different names after their suspensions.
So a mod starts a thread that reads "The Papa G and Mick Zagger insults and arguments thread", where both of them go to insult and argue with each other only to get banned? That doesn't seem right
If it were up to me, we wouldn't ban or suspend anyone. Especially guys with post counts of 10,000+, active members, and join dates a few years ago. That said, there was discussion among the blazers mods about the feud between the two and that in spite of the thread we dedicated to their cage match, they consistently let their feud spill over into other threads and somehow ruin those threads. Personally (speaking as a poster, not an admin), I've read countless posts by both guys and I'd rather have them posting than not. Beyond a doubt. I really hope this sort of "punitive" sort of suspension doesn't become a common thing.
That thread was started by a mod as a place to dump all of their posts from other threads. It wasn't meant as an encouragement. Sometimes a whole bunch of edited or deleted posts can disrupt a thread just as much as the bullshit fighting that was originally posted. With that said, they were both warned via PM repeatedly to stop with the personal insults and they ignored it. Honestly, I don't care if people disagree with each other, and if they want to get mean and nasty that's fine, but insulting each other's family is pretty much way out of bounds for me. One poster in particular likes to toss in a jab at anything personal he can recollect if he disagrees with your opinion about hoops. This wasn't a "banning". This was a suspension and they'll both be back in less than 48 hours now.
It was a failed experiment that I tried. One of the posters involved in that thread thought I was making them look bad by doing that. Also it sent the wrong message that it was okay to insult people in some threads but not others. The very next time I had to edit a personal insult in a thread I recieved a PM asking why I was allowing Papa G and Zags to insult people but not them. Earlier this week a S2 member suggested that we create a thread for those two to argue in. In response to that suggestion I linked to the Papa G and Zags argument thread showing them that we've tried that before and it didn't work. Someone else besides Papa G and Zags posted in that thread and it got bumped and active. It was a mistake on my part to create that thread and it was a mistake on my part for not closing it. S2 pretty much only has two rules, no personal insults and because of the Minnesota trolls, no posting dick pics. Papa G and Zags know this. I have PM'd them numerous times asking them to stop. I even invited them out to lunch to try and get them to make peace. They have also been told in different threads to please stop. Just they other day in the Summer League Grades thread there was over 100 posts of them insulting each other. It's grown out of hand. Nate, Barfo, Brian, Ed O and I have our own private forum that was started because of the Minnesota troll invasion to discuss problems in the forum. There has been a long discussion about what to do with Papa G and Zags if they keep throwing out personal insults. This wasn't just a case of a mod snapping and randomly start banning people. We knew they would be right back posting under different monikers. We know that some of you are going to be upset over this but we're not sure what else to do. The personal, wife, girlfriend and kids insults needs to stop. It comes down to this, the staff in the Blazer forum have tried many many things to get them to stop breaking pretty much the only rule this forum has. Editing posts, deleting posts, PMing them, trying to bribe them, etc. All we're asking them to do is one thing, stop with the personal insults.
While I agree with Denny, it did seem it was getting out of hand. Sometimes things like that just need to be stopped and a cool down period best for all.
I would hope that you guys would trust us to make a decision like this. It's not like we're running around banning people left and right and flexing our power. I hardly ever edit or delete posts, and if you don't count the minny invasion, I think we've only banned or suspended like five people on this forum since we moved here in 2008.
You take a lot of abuse for your opinions MM, especially when Nate was still coaching the team, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone insult your family or attack you personally. The most you get is a regular ribbing about "the pizza delivery guy".
