Last weekend Dave Chappelle crashed Portland again. He made a surprise appearance at Newmark Theatre downtown.
IPNC this weekend bitches! I'll be out all weekend. The board will be safe (and sadly, Mrs. HCP won't be, cuz I won't be around).
It is rad. The food is amazing throughout the entire weekend, but more importantly, the wine is even better!
This is the architecture thread, so I'll post this article about the Nets' ugly new stadium. It's industrially rusty on purpose. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/28/n...-both-rugged-and-rusty.html?hp&pagewanted=all
The Lloyd District (revised?) master-plan will raise height limits from 325' to pushing 500' in some areas. . This district is the next development 'boom' area, along with the West End and Zidell's SoWa property. I think the 'Jumptown' concept is dead but I really liked this proposal. With the huge development in the Lloyd Dist. I think this would have worked. The new practice facility at the RQ particularly was the project most intriguing to me. Just to refresh your mind:
Zidell's (South Waterfront) masterplan: . .. . . .. . Pearl 325' residential point tower: . .. . . .. . Portland Sustainability Center back from the dead - revised design: . .. . . .. . Lots of great plans to make an already beautiful city even more stunning. All that's missing is the demand. One day our city leaders will realize you can't run an economy on coffeeshops and second-hand boutiques.
Eastside streetcar opens this weekend! Track Town heads east Crossing fingers Jefferson Smith gets elected over Hales.
