I want free stuff and I don't want to pay for it.

That puts me in the 47%

    Yay!

Raise your taxes, but not mine. I'm getting in the spirit of how you think.

no, my spirit is don't start wars with countries, don't let banks do whatever the fuck they want and don't let wall street do whatever they want, cap how much money senators can make as a senator (and a rep), it shouldn't be more than the average salary in the US, increase the amount of time they have to work to get retirement and quit letting big companies get away with paying little in taxes.

thats part of the spirit in which I think.

Big companies pay huge amounts of taxes. They're also the collector of vast sums of taxes on behalf of the government. Anyone who's run a business with a payroll knows they are constantly writing checks from the company account to the government.

As for our elected officials? I'd rather see them term limited or time limited. Like congress meets a month a year. Cut their pay.

Anyhow, I want to go back to college and have someone else pay for it. My health care, too. Next time I'm between jobs, a 99 week vacation would be nice.

I want it for free, though. Surely there's people who make more than me that can better afford to pay for what I want.

    for example:

The Senators make about 17,400,000 per year. Sure, it's a drop in the bucket, but lets say they cap it at 75. That'd be 7500000.

    There's a savings of what, 10 million?

And then the house, 75,690,000. Cap that at 75K and it's a savings of 32,625,000 over 40 million.

So thats a combined savings of 50 million.

Is that a HUGE #? nope.

But after 10 years it's a savings of 500 million.

Me too. I wish they'd actually do their job instead of taking as much vacation time as they do.

I like how you are making a straw-man here. I expect that out of papag, not you.

which seems to suggest it's not a "conservative vs liberal" or "republican vs democrat" issue that people make it out to be.

but that can't be true, because I'm a free loader who wants the government to pay for everything and provide me with a house, a job, food, clothing, medical care and free condoms so I can screw tons of women.

Ok, that last part is true, but the rest isn't.

    Who called you a freeloader?

I want to be a freeloader, though. It's a lot easier than dragging my ass out of bed every day and hauling it to work in the salt mines each day.

It is easier to be a freeloader, and thankfully the freeloader party is full of both Republicans and Democrats. An equal share of the party too.

I actually think part of is that many liberals think that not enough government regulation is what causes things like the latest housing bubble and burst.

    Regulation is a farce.

Sarbannes-Oxley didn't prevent any disaster from occurring. S&L's have failed in quantities more than once, in spite of regulations and new regulations.

What regulations really do is favor one interest group over another. Disasters are used as excuses to enact them after the fact.

    Overgeneralize much?

    Prove it.

So you think Enron was no big deal?

What interest group, in your view, benefits from Sarbox?

56 posts in, and not a single Obama supporter will cop to giving additional tax dollars to the federal government, other than the absolute minimum that is asked of them.

So what? Probably nobody voluntarily sends a check to the government whenever they notice themselves speeding, either.

Dumb analogy. Nobody here is arguing that the fines for you speeding should be higher.
