Coming out right after the fact and calling it a terror attack should be good enough for a reasonable person. Having to back that up after it was politicized by the Romney campaign is a fruitless act.
Exactly. I couldn't figure out why he kept embracing coal...then I thought about SE Ohio and Western PA.
I saw her say this on CNN: http://freebeacon.com/candy-crowley-he-was-right/ After the debate, debate moderator Candy Crowley said Republican nominee Mitt Romney was “right in the main” but “picked the wrong word” on the Obama administration’s immediate response to the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead. Crowley interrupted Romney during the debate, insisting that President Obama had in fact called the attack an “act of terror.” ROMNEY: I want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror. OBAMA: Get the transcript. CROWLEY: It — it — it — he did in fact, sir. So let me — let me call it an act of terror… OBAMA: Can you say that a little louder, Candy? CROWLEY: He — he did call it an act of terror. It did as well take — it did as well take two weeks or so for the whole idea there being a riot out there about this tape to come out. You are correct about that. In a statement given in the Rose Garden on Sept. 12, Obama emphasized an anti-Islam video, before saying that “no acts of terror would shake the resolve of this great nation.” The administration’s narrative on the attack over the next two weeks was muddled. On Sept. 16, U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice attributed the attack on the U.S. Consulate to violent protests stemming from a “heinous and offensive” video. On Sept. 25, the president himself declined to call the attack an act of terrorism during an interview with “The View,” saying that an investigation was still ongoing.
PPP Poll: Colorado voters give Obama a 48/44 victory in the debate- more importantly 58/36 among independents. Sample is R+3
If President Obama was so convinced it was a terrorist attack, why did Susan Rice take such great pains (as the Obama surrogate) to tell every single Sunday show that it had to do with a spontaneous uprising from a video? Crowley stepped in and did so incorrectly.
+/- 4.5% is a draw when the poll has Obama winning by 7%? Is this the kind of math you use when you 'analyze' Romney's 5 pt plan?
I applaud you for being truly Independent like for a change. Your lack of a party needs your support!!!
CNN's analysis is the same as mine earlier in the thread. It had to be a huge knockout kind of fight to be a real win for either side. I expected Obama to show up, and he did. There was no knockout. This basically says it as I see it: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...-neither-romney-nor-obama-looked-good/263732/ Obama Wins on Points, But Squabbles Cast a Pall Over the Debate Who won? The cheap answer is Obama because his goal following a catastrophically sluggish first debate was so clear: Show some life. And, indeed, the president aggressively criticized Romney, labeling him a hypocrite and a liar who favors the rich at the expense of the middle class and poor. But Romney got his licks in, too, wrapping a miserable economy around the incumbent's neck. "The middle class is getting crushed by the policies of a president who does not understand what it takes to get the economy working again," Romney said. Bottom line: Call it a tie.
Great debate, overall I think Obama articulated very well and probably "won" the debate, though I don't really see debates as having a winner or loser. IMO It's like going to a concert with Metallica and Justin Bieber and asking "who was better?!" Anyway, after tonight I actually think Al Gore was right and the altitude in Denver did play a part in Obama's poor performance in debate #1. 8 years ago I was required to visit Fairchild AFB in Spokane for high altitude training, and among other things we were taught how to handle sudden cabin depressurization at high altitude, as well as learning (and dealing with) the effects of hypoxia. At one point we were taken into an air-tight chamber that could simulate high altitudes, and as we reached 25,000', we were instructed to take off our oxygen masks and complete as many questions as we could on a sheet a paper handed out at that time. The questions were pretty basic (which word doesn't belong, basic arithmetic, etc), and at first I was breezing through them, then I got to "41x13 = ?" and my brain just stopped. I couldn't think past 1x3, and I started feeling tired and dizzy and uninterested in the problem, let alone all the others after it. When we put oxygen masks back on, I felt so embarrassed yet amazed at the same time...it was something I'll never forget. Anyway, obviously the debate was not at 25000' (otherwise you'd be seeing lots of passing out occurring ), however even at 5000' it takes your body some time to adjust. Just ask Kenjon Barner of the Ducks last year in Colorado. Here's a guy who's without question in incredible shape, yet completely out of breath on a sure TD run (and nearly tackled before the end zone). And when most people get on planes, they feel tired because cabins are typically pressurized around 7000-8000'. Do it yourself: Next time you're on a plane and/or when you land in Denver, assess your energy level, then ask yourself "gee, how would I feel having a 90 minute political debate right now?" Not saying that's the sole reason for his performance or making excuses for him, but in my eyes Obama did look fatigued (especially compared to tonight), and he and his staff made a big mistake by not acclimating to the Colorado air as Romney did.
Obama was hands down the winner because of a couple things: -tore him up for how his 5pt plan doesn't add up. -Romney was a disaster when talking about women's rights. Binder full of women? WTF!?!?! really? -the e-verify point was spot on, made Romney look hypocritical. -Ended with the softball question hitting it over the fences with the 47% zinger. I hope I don't turn on Faux News and all they can discuss about the debate is the funny faces that Obama was making like the scuttlebutt after the VP debate... Errrrr...... Substance clearly goes to Obama. Just look at the fact checkers commentary.
i think romney came off super smarmy and stiff, and that smile is just creepy man and obama came off like a battered wife who is just starting to find her voice
He won, but nothing like the slaughter of the last debate. So in the big scope of things, its not going to move things that much.
Who changed their minds because of tonight's debate? My guess is there weren't many. I just saw Frank Luntz' focus group in NV, who mostly voted for Obama in 2008 but who are undecided now. They seem really swayed, but used all the language of those of us right of center, so I call bullshit on them really being "undecided". Obama showed up, and for that reason, seemed to be so much better because his baseline was crap. Romney wasn't much different from Denver. And as for Chad's excuse for the altitude, as someone who used to live 1/3 mile from the DU campus and now lives at least 300' higher than the campus currently (about two miles away), I respectfully disagree with him. First, he did fine in Denver in 2008. Second, a flight pressurizes the cabin at roughly 7,000-8,000 feet. Obama seems quite energetic on the campaign trail, and he takes several flights a day. He didn't prepare for the last debate because he doesn't respect either his opponent's ideas or his opponent personally.
Serious question: Why is it so important when/if Obama said it was an act of terror or an act of violence due to an internet video? 4 people died either way and it's not uncommon for investigations to take a couple weeks to get all the facts. What seems more important is the idea that it could have been prevented (and the question was 'why wasn't it?'), as well as bringing those responsible to justice. Obama didn't talk about 'the before', only 'the after'. But Romney somehow came off looking worse than Obama.
First debate was a clear win for Romney The VP debate I thought was a Biden win but I understood how Biden looked overly excited could be construed poorly and so the debate could be honestly scored more as a tie. But this second Obama Romney debate was a clear drubbing of Romney. Those saying otherwise I believe are either off kilter or lying to themselves.
Because they KNEW what it was hours after the attack and lied to the American people that it was some fucking video for TWO WEEKS. In reality, they couldn't admit they fucked up big time because they didn't want American troops on the ground in Arab countries. As a result four Americans killed and American territory invaded in two countries on September 11th of all days. This scandal is huge. We didn't protect our own Foreign Service employees because of politics, and then they tried to sweep it under the rug and blame it on some idiot. It was shameful.
Don't watch Frank Luntz. You're better than that. The dude has hand-picked people in those "focus groups". That guy has been a wolf in sheep's clothing for years. The last thing that guy is, is partisan. http://www.newshounds.us/frank_luntz_jokes_about_running_over_barack_obama_02222012
