Tonight was the Al Smith dinner in New York. Both Gov. Romney and President Obama gave hilarious speeches tonight. They took some shots at each other, but mostly made fun of themselves. In the middle of a horribly negative presidential campaign, it's great to see the candidates being gracious and light-hearted. Gov. Romney went first: Pres. Obama batted cleanup: We should be grateful we live in a country where our candidates can break bread with one another.
I don't think Obama was as funny, but I give him more credit for making jokes about himself. Gov. Romney's sharpest barbs were for the President. I wonder who wrote the speeches for each side?
I agree. I think the funniest moment was the non-joke from Obama "I just wanted to remind you all of that. I have no joke here."
FWIW, I always thought W had a great sense of humor and could deliver a joke.
When his portrait was unveiled at the White House, he pointed out that the oldest painting and newest paintings were of guys named George W.
