    Unless something has changed, he serves on a nuclear submarine in the Navy. What he's posted is an impressive knowledge of both how nuclear reactors work and are operated, and more recently (well, all along) his posts have demonstrated advanced military education. If he's not been taking classes, he's been studying on his own - more power to him.

    That doesn't make much sense.

    Piloting a weapon can be extremely cowardly, actually. It depends on how he's behaved. I don't think you've really taken time to consider everything.

    Yeah, the military kills hundreds of thousands of civilians in our last few major wars. I'm sure you don't really give a shit since they don't build monuments for immigrants, but it kind of bothers me.

    You can't answer a simple question, what has he done? No one is automatically a hero, especially not people that believe in taxation-aggression to fund indiscriminate murder.

    As to the wacky part of your post.... Do you give any credit for killing civilians to the assholes that hide in schools, in hospitals, behind women and children when they are shooting at our troops?

    I don't even understand what you are getting at with the monument comment, except it seems like a pretty stupid thing to say. Do you think we should build monuments for everyone that dies in war? (Except our guys, because they're just killers.)

    They do build monuments for immigrants.

    A simple google search yields:
    1) Battery Park (NYC) - The Immigrants
    2) New Orleans - Monument to the Immigrant
    3) Irish Memorial at Penn's Landing, Philadelphia
    etc.

    There's also the obvious one. Ellis Island / Statue of Liberty.

    And the military hasn't killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in the last few major wars. Iraq body count WWW site says 7500 civilians killed in Iraq by US led troops, including state forces, in 2003. About 2800 in 2004, about 1000-1200 in 05, 06, and 08, 2200 in 07. Less than 200 in 09, 10, and 11. Maybe 15,000 for the whole war. According to UNAMA (United Nations mission in Afghanistan), 12,793 civilian deaths in Afghanistan from 2006 to 2011, 2/3 of those killings by Taliban and not our side (military). Another 3500 in gulf war I.

    In all, maybe 2,000 per year. Or about the same number of murders committed in California (each year).

    I suppose if we count the vietnam "war," he'd have a point.

    I keep asking myself the same question: How would this news story be covered if it were President Bush up for re-election rather than President Obama? The fact that I conclude the coverage would be different makes me sad about the current state of our media.
