Dwight Jaynes @dwightjaynes QBs with small hands love it. Receivers used to really like it, too. A lot more one-handed catches. Dwight Jaynes @dwightjaynes Hard for me to imagine a student manager getting this idea and doing it on his own. Highly unlikely Dwight Jaynes @dwightjaynes Under-inflated FBs easier to hold onto, catch and throw.Teams use their own FBs when on offense. There's a reason they got fined for this Dwight Jaynes @dwightjaynes thank you RT @Petemoss03: kinda like Lee's 1 handed catch on 3rd down in first half to keep drive going?
It's douchey enough to pull a stunt like this, but then to say that a student manager did it all on his own without the knowledge of the players or coaches...... that's just fucked up. I'm sorry, but I think Barkley or Lee would have recognized an under-inflated ball. We've all held a football, we all know what a football or basketball feels like when it has too much air, not enough air, etc. This is the lamest excuse I've ever heard. Worse than the bullshit that Cal said about one assistant coach telling his defensive players to fake injuries.
An equipment manager knows enough about football to deflate the footballs and get them into the game at the right time and not one single coach knew about it? A guy who picks up dirty jockstraps from the floor, condoms from the shower floors and sweaty pads knows enough about the game of football to orchestrate this? And it has nothing to do with the fact Lame Kitten (and his coaching staff) has grossly underacheived at Oakland, Tennessee and now USC and has his job in jepordy? Oh, ok. Also, how could Barkley or the receivers not notice it as well?
So what would have happened if USC had won the game and this was discovered? Would they have had to forfeit the game? And how does this fall to the Pac-12 to deal with? No NCAA? Cheating during an actual game seems pretty damn bad compared to some of the other crap the NCAA gets their panties in a wad over.
USC was fined $25,000 by the Pac-12 for the ball-deflating incident, according to the conference. That'll teach'em!
Why didn't the officials notice it? They handle the ball after every play, they should be able to feel the difference.
I've been thinking of this all day and it is a just so damn comical to ask the equipment manager to take the fall. I mean, I realize it's probably a work/study job and he simply gets reassigned, but for the PAC-12 to buy that hopelessly weak fairy tale is beyond me.
I could give a shit about the fine, but for Lamo to once again be part of a shady gig is priceless! This guy is a NCAA violation waiting to happen!
