The Irish came here in big numbers. They were potato farmers. The dregs of their own country.

If your family came here in the colonial days, they were the dregs of their country.

In fact, very few of anyone who's immigrated here has been anything but.

If we were to want to thrive through immigration, we would need to target Indians and certain countries in Asia who are highly trained, highly educated in the fields of engineering and science. Philippines is good source for mass healthcare workers, nurses, etc. Cutting the H1B Visas for tech workers because of the backlash against the highly skilled foreigners was dumb as fuck.

Letting a bunch of guys to work at the local taco bell isn't in the best interest of the country's financial future.

    The fuck it isn't.

Nations that have limited immigration are now aging as a whole. They're in shit shape now and are going to be in worse shape as their populations get even older.

In our case, it'll be these immigrants that are paying into the SS ponzi scheme so I and my children can collect. That's TERRIFIC for the country's financial future.

sure, when you have a blank slate of nothing, that's all fine and dandy. but when you have a well oiled machine and then inject these dregs, it bring it all down. just more people wanting free shit and causing problems.

Low pay, low skilled workers working in mainly highly physically demanding jobs that will eventually cost them to have higher medical bills that we'll all have to pay for. That's what we're getting with low skilled workers who make shit wages and can basically be replaced by anyone.

I wouldn't give them squat for free.

But if they work and pay taxes, I don't see a problem.

Where will these millions of new jobs come from? After the Mexican government dumps its 50 million poorest onto us, we'll all have cheap maids and gardeners and sex slaves, but the new mongrel race will devour our racial purity and we'll get really tired of chalupas.

We wouldn't lose our jobs to cheap labor if we just had Mexico send in some gophers.

I think people, even "dregs," have ingenuity. As long as government gets out of their way, they'll do fine.

We have something like 12M "illegals" here now and they're not dying in the streets of starvation.

Lots of people complained about the influx of Filipinos to California in the 30's. Thousands of mostly low-skilled laborers moved to the west coast and faced a considerable amount of prejudice.

People complained about them taking their women and jobs. California passed a law forbidding marriages between whites and Filipinos. Filipino immigration was limited to the U.S. to 50 per year.

It's not whether or not they thrive; it's whether they do better here than in their country of origin. If you want to stop illegal immigration, try to help Mexico from collapsing.

Everyone compares current immigrants with those from the turn of the 20th century. They couldn't be more different. The untold story of the immigration wave from Sweden, Germany, Ireland and Italy was how many of those that couldn't make it here went back home. Why? We didn't have public assistance. It was sink or swim. You were forced to be industrious and hardworking.

Today, you come here, get on the dole and you're not going anywhere. You can sit on your ass, help the Democrats and get more and more stuff for free.

In West Seattle, there are families living in attics paying the same amount in cash as they would for a 2Br apt, but can't b/c they're not documented. Women are raped and don't report it b/c they don't want to "out" their family for being illegals.

I understand that Somalis in Seattle are much different than Mexicans in LA, but let's not pretend that not doing it the right way is "optimal".

    Brian,

If they could be documented (which I think is great), then they could report rapes, they could demand minimum wage, couldn't be threatened about their status, and so on.
