It's so much better when polluters can dump their problems in the air without having to pay the rest of us for it.

    Externalities are a liberal conspiracy.

It'll be so much better when companies move out of california and the unemployment rate rises even further and the economy is even more in the dump.

But it worked so well in Spain I guess where for every 1 "green job created", 2 jobs were lost.

this really did crack me up. First thought was wondering how you figured that you benifit one way or the other..then I realized that you may very well be one of those emlpoyed under the protection of cali public union...

what scares the hell out of me is the pattern of oregon following california into the abyss. Cali can lose jobs and still be ok, while oregon can not spare to lose any

What scares me even more is oregon goign the way of the midwest and the east coast. You know they used to have huge swathes of trees too? Where did their logging industry go?

It used to be the conservative argument that you should tie the cost of something as close as possible to the beneficiary. It was an argument I always found pretty convincing. You pay for a road by local people paying taxes for that road, or better yet a local gas tax, or better yet a toll. Tie the benefit to the cost, and you won't get as much reckless spending or regulation.

That's cap and trade. The whole premise of the system is to put a dollar value on the public cost of pollution so that corporations don't free ride. It's a very conservative idea when you consider that the only alternatives are either one-size-fits-all regulation (yuck) or hoping that business who pollute a lot go out of business because of bad PR (good luck with that, given how international commerce has become).

What? What the fuck are you talking about? it is obvious that you have zero idea when you flop out that bull shit. Oregon has and does plant more trees than they harvest. Most timber that is harvested now is private. Weak ass lies like you tossed out are what destroyed the industry in this state.
There are tons of things that are no longer funded by the timber industry, many I would have to believe are near and dear to you. Funds paid to schools alone are the reason timber counties are so short of budget and begging for taxes to be raised..

Well, it just discourages business growth in California due to the extra cost and regulation involved. Businesses will naturally just move or liquidate.
