Few great teams have had their PF be their leading scorer. Instead of praising Aldridge for however he shoots each game, I wish we would praise him if he gets a lot of rebounds, or if he stops his man.

He talks only about his scoring because that's how we and the media define him. I'd like him a lot more if he averaged 12 points and 14 rebounds.

I agree. But he's not Ben Wallace or Dennis Rodman. For better or worse, scoring has become the metric by which first-option big men are graded.

So, because he's going to shoot ~20 shots a game, I'd much rather he do it in the manner he did last night, where he was efficient and used his jump-shooting ability as a changeup rather than the go-to. He had 23 points on 16 shots. I can live with that all year. Especially on a night when the rest of the team couldn't shoot into the ocean from a sinking boat.

Not true. Even good scorers like Pao Gasol are judged and criticized mainly on tough defense and rebounding, not scoring.

They'd shoot better if the coach's system gave them more opportunities to shoot, and Aldridge fewer.

Now you're talking crazy. You want a PF that rebounds and plays defense? Next you'll want a small forward that rebounds......where will this madness end?

I read criticism here of Hickson for having no range, taking and making only junk shots, and staying close to the hoop, and I think, "Yeah! That's how I want my PF to be! Scoring should be last priority for a PF."

I like JJ's approach to the game.

I have this weird feeling that he is on his best behavior because of the 1-year contract thing, and if he signs a multi-year, his inner nut-job will come out.

Threads such as this one make this board almost unreadable.

306 posts of almost zero legitimate basketball talk. Instead, more pie-in-the-sky trade scenarios that are laughable to argue or debate. Everybody does realize that this season was supposed to suck, right? And that the idea was to get more will in the draft and with cap space next summer, right?

The guy who is going 21/7 isn't the problem.

One issue is that you think counting stats are a good measure of what a problem is. If Nolan Smith was shooting 7-24 on 3's every night, would you say that a 21 ppg PG wasn't the problem? Because that's a higher eFG% than the non-problem.

btw: I don't know how Win Shares are calculated, but he's by far at the worst WS/48 of his career. About 2/3's of his rookie year and less than half his last two LaMonster years.

What a ridiculous post. Nothing in LMA's past two seasons show that he's an inefficient player. He's coming off of a major surgery, and instead of being praised for playing, he has experts like you and others calling him lazy, soft, etc.

I'm sure in a few years Lillard will be next in line for you all to be bashed while being the team's best player.

I find a little irony in that you have always bashed Love for being the best player on a bad team. Now Aldridge is about to be the best player on a bad team for two years running.

I always love how some of the posters on this board like to toss out the "next you'll be bashing so and so..."

    Nope.

We've pretty much been bashing Aldridge consistently for the last... what... four years? It's not like these criticisms are new. People don't like a power forward that shoots 20 footers primarily. We don't like a power forward that struggles to get 7 boards. We don't like a power forward that doesn't play defense.

Exactly. We didn't start bashing Roy until he hurt his knee and was half the player he once was. I think its kind of a little kid mentality to get angry when people have criticisms of a teams best player.

I was disappointed when Roy got hurt, not because of his play but because of his attitude. The guy is obviously living in a dream world and he refuses to wake up to reality. He can't play anymore.

There were people bashing Roy before that, primarily because of the offense we ran because of him. And that trading him meant we could be a fast, fun, fast breaking team. The criticism definitely peaked when he got hurt, but there was quite a bit of complaints because we had to play slow to fit him, when supposedly the rest of our team fit a faster pace.

Wait.... who was saying we should trade Roy? I don't remember anyone saying we should trade Roy. I think most people wanted to trade for CP3 to pair with him.

Most people wanted to fire McMillan and run a different offense.

Its too bad Roy's prime wasn't spent with a coach who knew how to utilize him in the team concept.

Does that statement make me less of a fan?

Which was my point in starting this thread that you just bitched about. They always like the new guy until another new guy comes along.

You were bashing him two seasons ago when he was having back to back 40 point home games? You were bashing him last season when he made the All Star team?

And who is WE? WE have been bashing him?

There will be criticisms with every player, especially the perceived leader of the team. That comes with the territory. You better get used to that.
