She gives money away to people that do kind things on the street!

I just happened to be watching and noticed that the show had a staged situation just outside the studio in that a distressed pregnant woman is standing outside her pulled over car with, like, things that were tied to to the top of her car that had apparently fallen off.

Anyway, they had cameras on the "event" and the folks that took the time to stop and help the woman were then led into the studio.....in front of the clapping audience...had a nice little chat with Ellen, then handed a wad of cash for their kind efforts. Nice stunt, actually.

    Oh, that Ellen. :pimp:

I watch Ellen every day. Even when my Mom calls down for me to come up for dinner, I tell her to keep it warm until the show is over. She does. I love my Mom so much!

She provides hope and inspiration. I've decided to stay well away from the news and reality shows. Proverbially speaking, she's my new-found hero.

In all honesty, I was at home working on a quote for a client and turned on the TV (sound down) with some music playing. Just kind of a nice background effect while I hammer out the work.

Anyway, I wasn't really paying attention to what was on, but happened to look up and noticed the "act of kindness" semi-gag they were doing. It caught my attention and, truthfully, I was impressed by willingness of the various people to help. (Of course, though, they didn't show the ones who probably walked on by. ;) )

Moreover, in this day of gated communities, general distrusting of others, social (solitude) networking, it occurs to me that we may be less and less inclined to help out strangers, even neighbors, in need. People just tend to want to be left alone. Right?

Speaking of my girlfriend, BP, the other night, she shared a story about her sending her 15-year-old daughter to the grocery store to buy some additional bread cubes for the Thanksgiving dressing/stuffing. Well, as it turned out, while in the store, her daughter couldn't figure out where they were located and called her mom. Mom then says, "Just go ask one of the employees where they are." Her daughter responded, "Eww! I'm not gonna actually TALK to someone here!" Mom was stunned by the remark.

Really, though, are we becoming such an insulated and reclusive society that we actually dislike, even fear, face-to-face human contact?! What's up with that?!!

We spend our time texting rather than talking. Wifey & I were at a restaurant the other day and a young married couple (I asked) spent over 20 minutes sitting by each other and texting... never said a word.

There's definitely a time for texting. Not all the time, though.

As a personal example, I send texts out all the time asking if the other party is available to talk. Sometimes they are, sometimes they're not. When they are, I call them. Texting also works well when in meetings, yet still somewhat available to supply an answer, a direction, or even a small conversation. In fact, it's a very efficient use of time. Sometimes, texting works well when you may not actually want to talk to that person. In my case, that would be my ex-wife. Texting also works well in noisy/quiet environments when, otherwise, you wouldn't be able to hear the other party speak....or, you don't want to be overheard...such as in a mall, shopping, a quiet place such as a library, or the like.

For sure, texting is becoming an increasingly bigger "socializing" issue...especially with the younger set...and, of course, while driving. I "used" to do that...but no more.

Dude your "man points" took a dip! WTF?!?! I need to take you to a NASCAR race or something. Maybe we should go hunting and drink the blood of our kill. Maybe you are eating too much tofu and getting a high volume of estrogen or something!

 I'm fine. What did I say here that dipped the so-called man points? You're a Christian. So am I. It's not about man points here so much as a reference of respecting mankind as a whole. Christ calls us to that, does He not?

Write up a grant application to the city of Portland and they'll pay you to be an "Ellen Advocate!"

Dude watching Ellen's demographics is directed towards "woman". Let's go hunting and kill some innocent animals man! Watching this stuff will make you overly sensitive. Us men need to stay strong just in case we have a zombie apocalypse.

Sounds like a fantastic time! I'm all in for that!

For the record, though...from one of my posts, above. No worries, I had never seen any part of her show prior to this. If you're gonna deduct man points, then they'll have to be fractionanalized.

I don't watch Ellen (I don't really watch anything on TV besides sports), but I have seen parts of episodes. I like Ellen - she is good peeps, so I won't hate on ABM for watching. She just seems to have a good heart and is very kind, and very funny (in a clean way - kinda refreshing, as most comedians, especially females, have to be over-the-top crude/vulgar to succeed).
