You're correct, Rollin. And the scouts were responsible for it.

Excerpt from the following link: "Scouts Chad Buchanan, Mike Born and Joe Cronin are heading the Blazers' free agent pursuits while president Larry Miller searches for Pritchard's replacement."

Matthews is indisuptably a top 15 SG in this league. Great defender, great shooter.

I think the Blazers already have an up grade and it's Nic Batum. Batum showed he can be very effective at the SG spot last see season. So that leaves the Blazers to find a starting SF. You put Nic Batum at SG for a full season and he will grow into a star player.

But he won't if you leave him at SF? I don't have a problem with Batum playing SG. But not sure how you can justify him being a star at SG but he can't at SF.

Probably can I just think Batums numbers will go up if you put him at SG.

I don't understand the fascination with moving Josh Smith to SF. He's a fugging PF and a guy you want near the rim on both sides of the ball. Somewhat undersized, but never overwhelmed by NBA PFs.

You play him at SF but use him as like a PF. Doesn't really help spread the floor but with LA playing so far out of the paint I could see it working.

I never said that Olshey had any ties to Wes. I was just cleaning up the "technically" post by the guy who said that Matthews was a Buchanan move. "Technically", it was a Cho move, since he was the GM when Wes was offered the contract.

Contract was finalized on 7/21/10. Technically, it was a Cho signing. You do know what "technically" means, right?

So you're saying you want Aldridge basically playing the role of SF on offense with Josh Smith playing PF and Hickson or whoever next to him at C? And on defense you take the best PF defender out of the 3 and put him at SF?

Josh Smith is a PF. Hes a very good defender at PF, and he defends the rim well. Hes a solid rebounder. His skills give him an advantage at PF, but at SF he'd have very little success creating from the perimeter, and he would kill spacing with his lack of 3 pt shooting (hes shooting 38% from 3 this year, but its on only 1.3 apg). Hes a hell of an athlete but I dunno how he'd do on an island against the better players at that position.

I think Josh Smith is a great idea for Portland, but the obvious adjustment would be to move LMA to C and Hickson to the bench. You replace your worst starter with a borderline all-star type PF and impact defensive player who fits with Aldridge.

Josh Smith would drive me bat-shit crazy. Entertaining and even dominant at times, but man he plays boneheaded a lot.

Our defense sure does suck for having two "lockdown defenders" on the wings.

You dont play la like a sf was just saying with how he has been shooting from the outside so much it would allow you to play a big rotation and semi spread the floor.
Id much rather play him at PF and LA at the C. Was simply saying going with a very large lineup could work as well.

Smoove would be a nice player

Going into next season with a starting line up of

    Leonard
    Aldridge
    Smoove
    Batum
    Lillard

    Bench
    Matthews
    Lotto pick
    Babbitt
    Freeland

    That really isn't too bad

Portland has max money next off season if it wants it, so if they want Smoove it doesn't matter what the market is

Then why are we one of the worst defensive perimeter teams in the league? It's a glaring weakness we have right now. Movig Batum to SG; would immediately help our perimeter D. Having Josh Smith at SF would be an immediate improvement.

Doubt we can land a Smith; but adding him in place of Wes Matthews is a huge improvement.

    these.

Also playing him as a our "PF", alongside Hickson, we end up with two guys standing within 10 feet of the basket, clogging the lane even more. Aldridge as the lone big in the game opens the lane well for Lillard to penetrate, without being met by 4 defenders. Smith at SF would kill that.

I just think the Blazers should move Batum to SG regardless. I think that's Batums best position and he showed that last season. instead of looking for shooting guards I would be looking for a starting small forward.
