I see in some other threads that people have questions and or are complaining. I think I can speak for most of the staff here but we take banning very seriously. We also listen to your complaints. As soon as it appeared that this guy could be a problem I made a post flagging him in the Blazer mod only thread and Nate, Ed O and Denny within minutes all replied. We discussed if we should ban him and it was agreed that he had done nothing yet. It was also discussed that we would keep a very close eye on him. Which we did. We don't want trolls around here as much as you do but some of you are far too quick to label someone as being one. Recently some of you have wanted BigGameDame banned, Lanny banned, Ect. Any new member is thought to immediately be a dick posting timber troll. That's just not healthy. Forums need new members and the majority of new members have been fine. Sly
New members, yes. Members joining for the purpose of trolling one forum, no. It's not that hard, Mods.
OMG, someone wanted to ban Lanny?! Do they know he is a cute old man that is nothing but "BLAZER HOMER" status? I don't think I've met a bigger fan than him.
You personally have labeled a few people as trolls when they weren't. You get so upset over the littlest things I just don't understand it at times. It's my understanding that the mods at BFF where a lot of you came from would overreact and would ban people for little or no reason. Now we're soft because we don't ban soon enough? What do you want exactly? The majority of bans are discussed directly with the owner of this forum. I think that's pretty impressive. And very fair.
Yes, I was asked to ban Lanny because they just knew he was going to post a penis picture at any moment.
It's impossible to make everyone happy. There are always going to be people who want someone banned, and others who get upset when they feel someone is unjustly banned.
Yep. I actually don't think he should have been banned....yet. But it was becoming the point that he would have been banned down the road so not a big deal to me that you did it.
I disagree, NoLuck was banned here very quickly on Saturday. Super Skyder was banned with moments of creating his moniker just 15mins ago.
That's the thing. His schtick is to come in here pretending to be a Blazers fan, and is always discovered almost immediately. The last time I banned him I waited until he signaled his desire to switch completely to troll mode and then pulled the plug. He usually will debate and post for a while, but then once he is presented with facts, he loses it and starts spamming in caps or posting pics or whatever. This time he started bumping old threads, which to me was a signal that he was moving into his completely disruptive mode, so I terminated him.
I guess I don't understand the value at all in allowing that "schtick" to continue. What does that add to the community as a whole?
Because the rule is that we only ban the user name, not the user. That was how it was handed down. That's what has allowed certain other posters who were banned to continue posting until the ban was lifted. So it's a fresh start in essence. I can't ban him until he makes his intentions clear and crosses a line. We've broken this rule more than ever because of these Minnesota fans, but if one of them wants to come in here and debate, I will leave them alone until they get stupid and then pull the plug.
Trolls help get post counts up. Post counts = clicks. Clicks = $. Therefore, trolls = $. Therefore, we must learn to deal with trolls.
An IP ban would solve that. Most forums have this policy for trolls. Otherwise, mods are pretty much useless.
Actually, I enjoy getting under this guys skin. Go to their forum and you'll understand, they hate us. They hate our team, they hate our city, and they hate the fans. He may act like he's coming here to troll, but in fact he is actually getting very irritated when we outsmart him. I think it's hilarious.
then why was super skyder banned right after creating his account? Shouldn't there be a 3 strikes sort of system in place? Like, ok, you fucked up, but now actually want to come back and cntribute, great, add to the board. But if you've created and been banned 3 times, just ax him upon creation. You know what he's here for.
I didn't ban him, so I don't know. That's not a bad idea about the three strikes, but we would have to start keeping track of IPs.
