The Republican Party, last seen hanging by a thread of indifference and seemingly destined to fade into obscurity, has been snatched from the jaws of death by an ill-advised and decidedly out of touch assault on gun-owners by Feinstein, Leiberman, and a host of other big-city Democrats who should really know better than to openly attack America's one and only defense against tyranny. Democrats are making what is probably the most devastating mistake in the history of the party. Republicans will win both the Senate and the House next election and a Republican will follow them to the Presidency in 2016. It doesn't even matter what bozo they nominate.

Maris, to be serious, I wish this was true. I do believe that we as a nation are on the brink of surrendering yet another right. When I see guys here, who I otherwise respect, say they would give away their right to bear arms..I know that lesser minds would also do the same. I fear that oboma will try some end around on congress and try to do this ban with or with out them
The majority of voters in this country are women, and an increasing share of that is single women. The fastest growing religious group in this country checks the unaffiliated/agnostic/atheist box. The fastest growing racial demographic is latino. None of these groups traditionally list second amendment freedoms as a major priority. But they also haven't listed gun control as a priority, either. But it's pretty easy to see that a lot of those uninterested voters, if they ever became interested, are going to lean heavily toward tighter regulation. They just largely don't have a history of owning/using guns, so the fear of having them taken away is meaningless. The fear of having your grade schooler shot is real, though. (Even if the actual likelihood is absurdly low.) The question of whether they ever would care is really coming to the fore after this shooting. I see these latest comments as Democratic trial balloons coming up to test the real depth of that interest. Dems will watch the polls and see if this is the culture-war type of lever point the can use to take advantage of the demographic shift. Personally, I think it's too soon. I suspect the Dems will go back to more safe issues for them like the social safety net. They've proven they can win enough for now without risking the ire of rural Democrats. But demographics march along, and it's only a matter of time.
Maris is basically our comic releif. Sort of like the court jester. C'mon Maris, dance for us some more...
