That's what I saw too. It was the first time I'd seen him play without pushing. He got enough minutes that he relaxed a little and started playing more of a team game instead of just trying to impress the coach to earn minutes.
I am not trying to split hairs here....but the fact he entered the game half way through the 1st quarter and played big minutes in the first 3 quarters was the bigger testament to his improvement. (Not the blowout portion) Stotts is doing a good job of bringing him along slowly. I think the guy has a good BB IQ as well. He makes good cuts to the basket without the ball.
You mean anorexic version. JH is a knucklehead. I'd take an anorexic, less-knuckleheaded version JH on my roster and be happy.
He's going to be 22 in about a week and he's putting up a sub-8 PER as a rookie. Has he done some nice things? Absolutely. Has he been one of the least efficient players in the NBA so far? Yes. He's not a good shooter and he doesn't seem to do any one thing particularly well. I guess I just don't see much to get excited about. Ed O.
Same here. But, I always give them a free rookie year, while mildly expressing my doubts...so far he's no better than Armon Johnson was at the same point.
No offense but it is statements like this that make me cringe every time I read "PER". Why would we put any credence in any rookie's PER the first part of his rookie season? It tells us about as much as his PER did tonight. (Which had to be pretty good while shooting 5-10 from the field, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks in 24 minutes) Granted he looked horrible his first few games (which is pretty common for rookies) but he has looked pretty good the last few. Odds are he will be very inconsistent the whole year. Like all rookies including the rookie of the year. But I would throw out his PER if you are trying to evaluate him.
Least efficient in the NBA? There's five players less efficient than him on our team and as of this afternoon, 65 players in the NBA less efficient than him. Yeah, it's not like he's in the middle of the pack, but if you want to point the "one of the least efficient players in the NBA" finger, point it at the right players on our team, please.
Barton's PER is now 8.7 after his game against LA (up from 7.8 yesterday afternoon); for fun I searched for active players who had rookie PERs between 8 and 9. http://bkref.com/tiny/n1wps An interesting name pops up: Jamal Crawford.
what I like from Barton is so far how quickly he is "reigning in his wildness" yet still remaining agressive, if this is sustained and he keeps improving he will have been a great pick at #40 whatever.
All star? Will Barton? The Will Barton that plays for the Blazers? I doubt he'll be a starter on a playoff team. Where we picked him and what I've seen so far I'd be happy if he turned into a solid sub on a playoff team two years from now.
There are no all-stars on that list. Sorry, mgb. Sasha Pavlovic and Jerryd Bayless are on the list. I chronologized it. Why is there no one in 1979-2000, then suddenly many players?
Only active players Set the Active tag to "either" to get the full list. EDIT: here you go. http://bkref.com/tiny/C9Edq A couple more interesting names in there: Allan Houston, Corliss Williamson. And of course Devin Durrant, who the Blazers should have taken over Oreg Odden that year.
