I think Dirk is done. He gave everything he had for 2011 NBA Championship. He has nothing left. He could win one or two more as a 6th man if he wanted but he's done as an All Star level player.

Anyone think that the Nuggets are a better team than the Knicks?

All the hype is surrounding the Knicks, but it seems to me that if you swapped their schedules, Denver would have a better record than the Knicks right now, especially when the 82 game season is all said and done.

Denver's frontcourt is just insanely intimidating. Three seven-footers to go with Faried and Gallinari... it's hard to get a rebound against those guys, much less defend them when Gallinari and Koufos are out there stretching the defense. Javale McGee is also underrated, considering how most people (myself included) usually just clown on the stupid plays he makes. For every stupid play the guy makes though, he makes some incredible game-saving blocks, rebounds, and dunks that 99% of the league could only dream of making.

I think this year's squad is a bit different than last year's now that their new additions after the Nene trade are starting to mesh, but more than anything, I see them as a match-up nightmare for teams that rely heavily on their great frontcourts or creating offense around the rim. If they get in a #4/5 match-up with the Clippers, Grizzlies, or Spurs, I can see them pulling the upset. The Clippers are a bit of an exception because they have such a great perimeter game and great shooters, but once you neutralize Blake and co. in the post and don't allow any offensive boards, that becomes a whole 'nother series.

The Knicka have had a slew of injuries and are still second in the East. When mostly healthy, they blew out the Heat twice. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are garbage. We beat them without all our guys.

Haha Nuggets will be lucky to get the 8th seed. They won't be anywhere near the 5th seed.

Being second in the East is like being on the playoff bubble in the West.

As for the "when healthy" argument for the Knicks, look at all of the teams around the league that have had bigger injury problems than the Knicks. If anything, the Amare Stoudemire situation has helped them to this point and will only put their situation in jeopardy in the future. They've got a good thing going right now, and adding a one-dimensional offensive player that's sub-par defensively and demands the ball to be effective is not exactly going to help the situation.

The 100 lb elephant in the room isn't even Stoudemire though, and it's not even their collective age, which should still be an issue, because even though their old timers have held up well in the first 1/3rd of the year, that doesn't attest to longevity in the least. Rather, the 100 lb elephant is J.R. Smith. While he's made a bunch of game winners, highlight plays, and had some big nights, the fact of the matter is that he's still not a good team player. Watching him play, it's clear he's got the same problems that guys like Ben Gordon and O.J. Mayo have. He's a high volume scorer who makes very poor decisions offensively. While he may make the shot that will win you the game, your team is only in that position because he made ten horrible decisions prior.

As for you beating the Nuggets, that doesn't say anything. It's an 82 game long season and teams will lose all sorts of games. You can't use the transitive property when it comes to sports.

If you look at the schedule they've played, the Nuggets have actually fared better than most people would have expected. They've had one of the league's hardest schedules, not necessarily even in terms of their opponents, but in terms of their road trips, back-to-backs, etc.

The Nuggets have played more road games (22) than any other team in the league, playing a schedule against a high level of competition with rough turnarounds, yet they've come out of it all three games over .500. (For reference, Portland has played 14 road games this year. An eight road game differential is pretty significant. I'm sure HCP would attest to that, having traveled with the team.)

From watching them play, they look every bit as good as the teams that are in the top five seed range and are far from a fringe playoff team. If they keep up this level of play, they're a lock.

Regardless, the point is that, whether it's a #4/5 or a #3/6 match-up, teams like the Clippers, Spurs, and Grizzlies could easily get upset by the Nuggets in the first round, simply from a match-up perspective, with Denver's height and rebounding ability (they're currently #1 in the NBA in team rebounds btw).

Hell, they're 2-1 against the Grizzlies, 1-0 against the Spurs, and 2-0 against the Warriors on the year. I'd say it's not out of line to consider Denver a bigger threat than most 'analysts' and posters do, when those 'analysts' and posters just look at the standings or how their team did against them in a one game sample size to make an assessment of an opposing team.

    Oh dear. Where to start?

First of all, I'm not even talking about Amare or even Shumpert (don't forget him) when talking about injuries for the Knicks. I'm talking about Melo, Sheed, and now Felton. And still, the Knicks are 21-9, better than 5th in the West. So your argument there is garbage.

Second of all, most analysts picked the Nuggets to finish high in the standings. In fact, ESPN Magazine picked Denver to finish with the #1 seed. But they have wildly disappointed. No, they are not three games above .500 as you erroneously pointed out. They are 17-15. That's right. They have more losses than the Blazers, a team that has been working FIVE ROOKIES into the rotation while playing 12 of their first 19 on the road.

The Knicks are awesome and will improve. The Nuggets are garbage.

    Learn the game, then post.
