I guess I grew up in a blue-collar household and you busted your ass working hard at all times. If you didn't like something, you did what you could to address the situation. You don't point your finger at someone else for what you feel is wrong. You go out there and make it happen yourself. So, props to Phil for making his way. And props for him to wanting to keep more of his earned coin in his pocket. But go do something about it instead of bitching about it waiting for others to help him out of feel symphathetic to his needs.

But I think he is doing more than just bitching. He is going to do something about it; which is what should be really talked about. What if he leaves the country for someplace that doesn't charge him 63%? Is he wrong for leaving the country for another that maybe charges him 25%? And if he normally was fine paying the 43% of his 20 mil per year, but bolts because he has to pay 20% more; then the USA just lost 8.6 million per year. How many others will follow suite? How many more millions or billions will the USA lose from people taking their earnings and businesses elsewhere if they can?
No. I think you've missed the several posts where I said he should do whatever he wants with the money (I'm starting to wonder if you've read any posts, cuz you're arguing things I'm not disputing or arguing). I don't care. I don't begrudge him of that. It's his money, so he can take it where he pleases. He should do that - it's a strong move financially. But he has several issues in moving his money. One, where can he move that won't tax him heavily that he will truly be safe? Two, monies earned in America will still be taxed by the U.S. So how much money can he really save? And at what cost? My whole thing about this is he should just STFU and not look like a douche in the media and bitch about this. It wasn't the best approach. I have the same feeling when I hear celebs use their celebrity to influence voters for certain candidates. It's bad enough, even if the celebs are up and knowledgable on issues, but it's even worse when people blindly vote for a candidate or cause simply because their fave celeb is voting that way. Do the celebs not realize how many stupid people there are in our country?
Again, he's not bitching. He's just speculating on future plans, which he doesn't even outline. It seems like the "tax the rich" faction interpreted that as some kind of bitching and moaning session. Show me exactly where the "bitching" is. He's not on some wacky political rant or anything, just saying that his tax burden is going to be around 60%. Like I said, if he was making $20m a year he'd save $3m a year by moving to Nevada, so maybe that is in the cards for him. Maybe do some investing in the golfing there. If you live in California, the writing is on the walls here. So his sentiments are just kind of realistic, sure its paradise to live in La Jolla or wherever he lives, but is it worth $3m extra more a year to do so with really no extra incentive? His state income tax was just raised by 33% or so.

That'd be dumb. If that's the only reason responds...... I can't believe that would bother him enough to warrant a response. But he did open his mouth in the first place, assuming people would care. And they did. So he decided to shut his mouth (after apologizing).
It wasn't just off-the-cuff, though. He ranted about it for a bit. He knows he should just keep his mouth shut. Whether the shit he had to offer was right (and it is, no doubt), he should just keep his mouth shut. He's done stuff like this before, and he's learned and then he keeps his mouth shut. With his worth, though, is there anywhere he can really go that would save him enough money to leave? Nobody answered that earlier. I mean, when factoring safety, health, convenience, etc. A lot of his money will be taxed by the US government if he leaves the country. Is there anywhere in the US that he could live and save significant state income tax (enough to make it worthwhile to leave)? I mean, I love weekends in Vegas. But to actually move there? Over sunny SoCal? If I made his money $3 million wouldn't be enough to get me to move to Vegas from SoCal.
All you have to do is build a big ass compound in Vegas and travel anytime you want. Its not like he stays in one place anyway. Vegas is a 30 minute private jet flight from SoCal. Move to Seattle or Texas. No state income tax. $3m is kind of a break point in savings. He could buy a new baller ass mansion every year for fucks sake. or a new vacation home every year. 2 years in vegas, he can buy his own island.
I dunno. $3million seems like chump change when you're making that kind of cash. And like I said, I'd rather live in SoCal than Vegas. I know there are ways around the "where you live" for tax matters, but to really be safe and on the "up and up"....... Did you really suggest moving to Texas or Seattle? If I'm making $50M+, I'm going to live where I want to live. Certainly not one of those two places.
Rich people are some of the stingiest motherfuckers around with their money in a sense. Sure they blow it on stupid shit and overpay for disposable items, but they'll look to save everything they can in terms of cutting corners. I mean you make Socal to be this paradise, it really isn't. I mean what, are the costcos better in La Jolla than in Corral Gables or Vegas? come on, there's not much uniquness and if you're taking a $3m per year hit for nothing, its best to do something else.
