If you're talking "big picture" then I agree that he's fairly average. But if we're talking about today...I think he's Top 10 at his position. There is a dearth of SG talent right now (especially if you take into account salary and age) which makes what should be "average" into "well above average".
Outside of Kobe, Wade, Ginobili and Harden there aren't any SGs who don't have gaping holes in their games - I think Wes is one of the guys with the fewest holes.
So who are you going to get that would be a better SG? Sad as it is, I don't think we can upgrade at the SG position.

Don't get me wrong I like Wes but I think he is a bit over rated by Blazer fans. I understand he is a fan favorite but a lot of Blazer fans act like they wouldn't give him up for anything.

You can take CP3 and Ginobili off that list - we all know that they aren't coming here. Then strike all the PGs names (also including CP3) and you're left with a list that includes TWO players who some MIGHT argue are better than Wes...three if you're from NYC.

We already have a sg that's better than Matthews right now. His name is batum.

So when making a choice; you can look at sg and sf positions. I would much rather have Matthews come off the bench because of his defense and scoring in streaks. He's a perfect 6th man.

Mayo or reddick off bench. Exactly the scoring we need. Let Wes play defense on first unit against other teams best player

I was just posting the list of unrestricted. Didn't say which are obtainable.

I agree with this - the better defender should play against the opposition's better players.
I'd love it if Wes could be our 6th man, but given the talent pool he's a starting SG.

I realize that, I was just pointing out how unreasonable it is to expect an upgrade at SG.

I think Wes actually makes a lot more sense with our starters than as a 6th man. I think an ideal 6th man scorer should be much better at creating his own shot. Wes isn't that. He's a much btter catch and shoot player, and a solid defender, which makes him a decent starter alongside players like Lillard, Batum and Aldridge. Off the bench, as a 6th man, I'd much prefer a 1/2 who can reliably get his own shot, while also having an ability to create for others. Terry, Mayo type of player.

Did you read moving batum at starting sg and batum 6th man? There is a much deeper pool of sfs in the league.

Actually the Goodwin kid from UK intrigues me; not much of an outside shooter at this point, but he's really young for his class (18) which suggests there's still plenty of room for improvement and his has skills that most of this roster currently lacks (slashing, driving, getting to the foul line). Looks like he's slotted to around 12th in the draft at this point.

If he can't be the starter right away, he looks like the kind of guy that might turn into a really nice sixth man type.

Tend to argee with you there. Would be frickin awesome if we got a new solid starting C, a legit scoring 6th man, and were able to retain Hickson as back-up 4 / supersub big.

Totally agree. As much as I don't like him as a player, I think Tyreke Evans could potentially be a great 6th man.
