What's funny is that the guy that played the lead licks while Clapton sang sounded more like Clapton's playing on the track than did Clapton's lead playing in this concert. Hiliarious seeing the best guitarist of the lot--Albert Lee--playing acoustic rhythm.
Amazing they remained so close after Clapton stole Patty Harrison from George. That woman inspired both "Something" and "Layla", so she must have been amazing.
I've always thought that Harrison wrote the best Beatles songs. When you look at the catalog, his songs always stand out, even with the small sample size. Think For Yourself, Something, If I Need Someone, Here Comes the Sun, and the song in the title of this thread, to name a few... Abbey Road is my favorite album in terms of what an album should essentially be, and I just can't imagine it without Something leading the way. Come Together is a great song, but it almost feels out of place with the flow of the album. Something really helps start the flow of Abbey Road when you list to the album in full.
I don't think I'm getting carried away. I mean, we're talking about something that's pretty subjective here, but I really think that for the amount of songs he wrote, he hit way more home-runs than duds. I'm not saying that the shit he wrote on Magical Mystery Tour had any value or was better than the Lennon/McCartney/(Martin)'s work, nor am I saying that Harrison even had a good song on the White Album outside of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, but given his small sample size, it's amazing how some of the few songs he's written rank amongst the Beatles' greatest.
no worries man, music is def subjective gotta think only his strongest songs got onto the albums though, hence the stellar home run/dud ratio
From reading Clapton's autobiography I came away with the impression they were never all that close, nor was Clapton close to anyone else back in those days. He was basically a self-absorbed addict who didn't care about anyone, including himself. Nowhere in the book does he speak of George as being a close friend, or in anyway special to him.
This was somewhat interesting... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...tti-Boyd-left-Eric-Clapton.html#axzz2KRYJtIWX

Damn you. Every time I go to that Daily Mail site I spend a couple of hours reading minutiae. I just now emerged from Trivia Heaven.
