Funny you should mention sas. They got their superstar and from that point; always were the top team in the league. Ironically they kept building by great scouting and storing picks overseas. They were a legitamate contender for a good 10 years. Shit they are still a contending team.

The trick is finding that player you can build from. The superstar talent like a Duncan, Durant, lebron, etc. sometimes you can find them via draft, sometimes you need to trade for them (like we did obtaining Pippen).

The key is to get into the playoffs and make it past the first round. Then a disgruntled superstar will ask to come to us. Otherwise you need to be lucky and find the superstar via draft. This draft doesn't seem like their is any superstar talent; therefor why bother? Why not try your best to make the playoffs and entice free agents or disgruntled players to want to come to Portland?

On Mike & Mike this morning, an analyst was asked what the Knicks need (and specifically should trade Shumpert for). The answer, "a guy who will go and get the basketball. Someone who's 6'9" and energetic, who can rebound well and score when needed to"

Is there a better description of JJ?

Those assets helped us get sheed and Damon.

Which assets? Certainly not the ones that we got for Drexler.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Houston could be looking to offload seldom used forward Terrence Jones and may not be looking for much in return.

Cliff Robinson, Randolph Childress, Reggie Jordan and Aaron mckie.

Childress, mckie and Jordan for augman.

Drexler was traded for Otis Thorpe and a draft pick.

We traded Strickland and Harvey grant for sheed.

We signed Kenny Anderson as a free agent.

Later we traded Kenny Anderson for Damon and signed free agent Brian grant.

So most these assets were from free agent signings.

Cliff was a second round pick

Drexler was traded for Otis Thorpe and Randolph Childress

Childress was traded basically for Gary Trent

Strickland and Grant were traded for Sheed, but neither of them were draft picks of ours?

We got to the WCF because of trades really. Trades at a time when the CBA favored guys who would spend a zillion dollars to win like Paul Allen.

As for the team we had, during that run Portland had like 9 lottery picks on it's team

Wasn't that I was saying all along? You can build without lotto picks.

And I said that you need assets to make trades... and we have no assets outside of Dame, Aldridge, Batum, and Wes.

Well we have 16 million in cap space this summer. I assume we can pick up some there

It's a weak FA class. Yeah, the "assets" will be better than what we currently have (outside of 4 players), but they still won't be trade chips that'll dramatically improve the team.
