He would be a huge upgrade at Center and JJ would probably be a good fit in SA. Thoughts?

I don't think San Antonio would trade him. He's one of their only young guys. They've been waiting on him for years. I can't imagine Duncan has too many more years left. In fact, if they won the whole thing, I wouldn't be surprised if he retired.

He isn't really a center though, right?

A PF playing Center just like Hickson.

So that's really a lateral move more than anything, right?

I would assume MM is saying no because he would think Splitter plays better D.

Hey, I'm not claiming to know much about the guy. Haven't watched him much. Just curious what you guys think.

Why on earth would the Spurs do that? Did they suddenly get stupid?

He is big enough to play center and iv read he is a center but can play PF in the Nene mold. Personally haven't seen him play much but I'd take him at under 6 a year. Not sure if I'd pay him more and at 6 a year SA will probably match.

Well, that was my point from the beginning. He's a pretty big part of their future.

I mentioned this in another post, but I went to the San Antonio game where they blew out the Clippers in LA.

He played center and played it well. But that was in Pop's system. Their second unit all played well, but I am not sure how that translates once that player leaves SA. Let's face it Boris Diaw was never known for his D, but he looked good last week. Matt Bonner as a Blazer? I doubt we get the same result. But yes Splitter played center and was very physical and very active. So yes he is big enough....at least in their system.

MM - I just don't see ANY reason that SAS would approve this. We don't have the necessary assets to get it done.

They will someday face a game after Duncan has retired, but it hasn't yet come. Then they might consider tearing it all apart. But even then, under those circumstances, I don't think we have enough to offer them outside our starting lineup. Bigs always command more.

Yes he is a PF; but has the absolute ability to play center well. And yes he is an upgrade over Hickson, IMO.

But SAS would do whatever it takes to keep him.

    I'll take JJ over Splitter.

That's foolish talking. Splitter is the more valuable player by far. Bigger, prime years, played Championship level postseason, more difficult position to fill. Splitter > Hickson.

I think JJ is substantially stronger, capable of both good scoring and rebounding and will be a darn good rotation player when we have a true center. he can fill in at both positions very well. Splitter is a lightweight.
