Couldn't get into the Port today either, but the line of cars was so long I didn't even try to go up to the gate.

Nice job shutting down business. I should just sit there tomorrow and see what they do when one of the many UPS trucks who deliver goods to the Port do tomorrow try to enter the Port. Will they allow those trucks to pass?

Too bad we don't kill people who try to organize unions like we taught the South Americans to do

Too bad ignorant posts like this that have nothing to do with this thread typify union supporters on this board.

Hard for some to imagine, but there is usually two sides to these complex situations:

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union on Thursday said a lockout of its workers at a Vancouver, Wash., grain terminal is not only based on false accusations but also violates U.S. labor laws.
United Grain Corp., a subsidiary of Japan's Mitsui & Co., on Wednesday said it was locking out workers from ILWU Local 4 after a report from a private investigator uncovered evidence that a member of the union's bargaining committee twice attempted to sabotage equipment at the terminal in December.
Officials with the union responded Wednesday by saying the charges were fabricated to justify locking out workers. The union followed-up on Thursday with a claim that the grain company's action violated labor laws by failing to bring the issue to the bargaining table.

No, it's too bad people in this thread are calling unions whores and criminals. I'm just slipping on that nice looking slope that ya'll set down.

But hey, if people want to have rational arguments, then fuck off right?

Yet they shut down the entire Port. There are at least 15 separate companies there. Great Western Malting has nothing to do with this, yet their business is being disrupted.

I didn't say either of those things about the union members shutting down commerce. What is your beef with me?

It is funny. Free medical, constant raises and job security. With no education.

There's a lot to be envious of.

    Speaking of which...

A Conservative in a wheelchair entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. He looked across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus sitting over there?" The waitress nodded "yes," so he told her to give Jesus a cup of coffee, on him.

The next patron to come in was an Independent with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus over there?" The waitress nodded, so he said to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, "my treat."

The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Liberal on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, "Hey there Miss. How about gettin' me a cold glass of Coke!" He too looked across the restaurant and asked, "Is that God's boy over there?" The waitress once again nodded that it was, so he said to give Jesus a cold glass of Coke, "on my bill."

As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Conservative, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Conservative felt the strength come back to his legs, got up and danced a jig right out the door.

Jesus also passed by the Independent, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Independent felt his back straightening up, and he raised his hands, praised the Lord and did a series of back flips out the door.

Then Jesus walked up to the Liberal.

The Liberal jumped up and yelled, "Don't touch me... I'm on workman's comp!"

For the record, my post calling union workers "whores" was sarcasm or in jest or what the fuck ever. I'll be sure to put it in green next time - forgot we have drop-dead-serious peeps on this message board that don't understand sarcasm/humors/jokes.

For the record, so you know, that's exactly what nearly all of my posts are. The exact opposite of your posts.

Nothing. I wasn't replying to anything you said when I made my first comment. You engaged me.

Well it's hard to keep track of just who is a flaming conservative around here. There's so goddamn many of them.

All I know about you is what you post on this board and you make yourself sound like a lazy self-entitled union worker. Hope I'm wrong.

    Your welcome for playing.

Lol, where have I ever given the impression that I'm lazy. You could come do my job for day at my production level and it would be last time you thought of me as lazy.

    Pencil pushers these days....sigh

Now that's what I'm talking about Mic. You work your butt off. There is a reason they form unions, so people who work hard and give their life blood to a company are fairly compensated.

You attitude makes it sound like a union is this great gig where you get all these great benefits for no reason. There is reason you get all those benefits, it's because you don't/can't have a lazy day and work your butt off every working day for your company. You are in a union to protect yourself from being exploited. Those pencil pushers (funny how you take offense about me making assumptions about you yet you do the same thing, "lol") you are talking about would love to exploit your hard work and profit off it all and leave you with nothing.

Bottom Line: Union work is hard, taking orders from the boss, work! Posters against unions need to realize union workers aren't free loaders taking advantage of companies, they work hard and constantly have to take orders to keep the company going, they are an integral part of the company and should be treated like that.

BTW- pencil pusher work their asses off too to the tune of ungodly amount of hours. There are few easy gigs out there . . .

As of last month I am now a union member. Portland was one of the last major cities that wasn't union for working in the TV industry.

Good. Your posts show how hard you have worked and the sacrifices involved with the constant travel. Nice to know you have a union looking out for you and making sure you don't get screwed as you devote your career to this industry.
