So is a Maynor a keeper if he plays well the rest of the season?

If Maynor can play anywhere close to where he was last night do we keep him? He will be an RFA so we will have that option, but there's the old we gotta max out capspace argument. So do we piecemeal the capspace and add 2-3-4 solid guys like Maynor, of go after one big piece with little left over?

Whaddya you guys think is his value and our best strategy?

 

If he's a 6-10 point, 5-10 assist guy in 18-24 off the bench he is totally worth it in my book. He is our backup guard in a pretty decent three-guard rotation.

 

If he signs a reasonable offer fairly quick in free agency so we don't have to deal with an inflated cap hold than I think we definitely should lock him up for 3-4 years.

 

I'll say we don't extend a QO to him but explain to him that he's our priority after we use our cap room.

The "nice thing" about our needs is that even if we do miss on getting a big-name FA, we can use that cap space to fill multiple holes on the bench. Back to Maynor - I'll say that if he keeps playing as well as he did last night and his knee checks out, we'll end up overpaying him in the end w/ most or all of our MLE in exchange for him not signing elsewhere while we use our capspace.

And it'll be worth it.

 

So Maynor is a restricted free agent next year, right? But if we pay his 3.2 mil qualifying offer, it prevents him from becoming a FA?

The Blazers only have 43 million in guaranteed salary next year. If we resign Hick to 7 mil and Maynor to 3, that only leaves 5 mil left to fill out the roster (with 9 players). I hope we can at lest improve one position off the bench. The problem is, if we keep Hickson, it will take up so much of our room, that we are pretty much stuck with the same team for awhile. That's why I'd look to deal LA.

I think this team would do a lot better without LA than without Hickson. No one provides the inside toughness of JJ, but we have plenty of jump shooters.

 

I like him so far, and I think it's nice when he can play alongside Dame.

Two things:

1) Can he consistently hit an outside jumper?

2) Does he care if he comes off the bench long term?

We have the rest of the season to try him out, so obviously there's no rush, but a decent backup point guard is incredibly hard to find.

Maynor does not look like he has lost any of his quickness. So yeah if he is healthy we need to lock him up. Not only are you filling a back-up PG need, you are also filling a back up SG need too. (Lillard) So it is basically a 2-1 for only 3-5 million.

Having Wes, Nic, and Damian next year as potential SG's is not bad. That way we can draft a young SG and let him develop.

 

We will regret it if we don't sign him this summer. He is exactly the back up point guard we need.

I'm curious to see how the next three games pan out now that maynor is more comfortable with this team.
