Who is the magical FA we're saving for? Mayo? I'm fine with Matthews. Pekovic? I'd rather develop Leonard. Bynum? Too risky. The other Bynum? Not a better fit than Maynor.

Room exception is only 2 yrs guaranteed. So you're basically offering him a 2yr/5.2M deal when he could probably get 3/10M guaranteed. :dunno:

I don't love it, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we offer Bynum 3/40M with the 3rd year non-guaranteed. Few others that have cap space have the luxury of offering a guy coming off of knee surgery that much. We're not going to get Dwight to come to Little ol' Portland for just 13M a year. Then figure out if we can S&T Freeland or someone for him to open up some space, or just fill out the roster after:

Dame/Wes/Nic/LMA/Bynum with a room exception and minimum contracts.

His qualifying offer would be 5.8M. The second we give him that he would sign it.

Freeman is right but there is a very good chance Maynor comes back.

But if maynor agrees to a 4 mil, 10 million contract and signs it; the 5.8 mil is lifted and the new 2.5 deduction takes place.

I hope you're right about maynor coming back. I would hate to lose him.

I would be extremely disappointed if we grabbed Bynum this offseason. In fact I think it's too big of a risk for olshey. If Bynum busts; then olshey's job is at risk.

I think olshey will make safer bets, IMO.

IMO Bynum is NOT an option unless he signs for 5 mil per which he won't, no way we take that risk, and even at5 mil per he's a risk

I wouldn't even risk that on him. The guy just had surgery on BOTH knees after sitting out the entire season to date. With our medical staff, his career would be over the second he signed with us.

Ironically, I was just reading this article where an Orlando writer is praising their GM for passing on Bynum in the Dwight Hoard trade. In that article, he takes the following cheap shot at the Blazers:

"and absolutely, positively don’t ever sign a big man with bad feet and/or bad knees. (Portland Trail Blazers fans should quickly avert their eyes here.) See: Oden, Greg; Bowie, Sam; Walton, Bill."

Not sure why he felt it necessary to include Bill Walton on that list. Sure, injuries cut Walton's career short, but he brought one NBA championship to Portland, which is one more than Shaq and Dwight Howard combined brought to Orlando.

    Take THAT, Orlando hack!

Sabonis had bad feet and bad knees and he did alright for us.

so you guys don't think Olshey has Bynum pegged as a "needle mover" who fits his philosophy of "get the starters right first, then worry about backups" and helps LMA with his "I'm NOT a center" stance?

This is getting into devil's advocate realm, so I'll stop here--but like I said, this would NOT shock me.

Ya I would take a center siging that would give us only one title. That would double our total!

I would love to be sitting in my seats during a NBA Champiionship!

I just imagine, if it's 2 years with team option, Philly would probably be willing to go a little higher to retain him, with similar options, but I'd likely take a risk on it. Especially if you got asimilar deal to Roy's, unguaranteed if knee issues arise. Am sure his agent would push back on that.

There is something to be said about the value of even one title. As in how many of us would take one title now even if it set us back 5 years? That would be a very hard choice. One great chance a title by going for it now and being set back for 5 years or building a team that is a serious contender for 5 years and maybe getting no titles?

Lmao that would be funny if he actually did come back to Portland. What would be even funnier is if oden actually played well and we won a championship. Then Pritchard would say "see I told you so!!!!!"

I would take the title. Look how long it has been since the last title. We might do five years of one and done if we even do that well.

I don't think Blazers will offer Maynor QO. Too much money to tie up. I think they will negotiate with him aggressively and try to get him signed for a few years at about $3-4M per.

JJ Hickson - I'm not sure whether they bring him back or not. He's not their first choice, as he's not a Championship level Center. He's really a PF. We already have a good one. But I don't think the team is eager to have him leave. He's been really good for us.

My prediction is that we aren't going hard after a UFA. I think we try to make an un-even trade and use our cap space to absorb bigger contracts. Then, we look at re-signing Maynor and Hickson. Just my guess.

I think that's a good guess. Unless we get the center we wanted. I still think our offseason maybe just adding dalembert and oneal with the amount we have left over.

My fear would that someone who is looking for a PG (Which is a lot of teams) offers Maynor a 4 million dollar per contract on Day 1. I do not know who is agent is, but there would be a good chance that they take it.
Then we have more cap room to make a deal, but with an extra need added to the equation. IMO Maynor is the best back up PG we have had in a while. They obviously are not that easy to come by.

What is the last day we can make the QO to Maynor? The end of June and after the draft. It would be nice if Olshey has an agreement put together on draft day. I don't want to take a step backwards.

Maynor and Hickson off the bench would be sweet.
