Don't know why you replied to me this way, unless you think I believe Pek can be a Joel. That's very far from the truth. I'm not high on Pek at all. He's just another hickson type player with less athleticism.
He set good screens, yes. He rebounded well, yes. There are a lot of centers that can do that and be effective on offense. If I remember correctly, I distinctly remember either Houston or PHX, one of the two, completely ignoring him on offense and clogging the paint while he wandered around doing nothing. Honestly, Reggie Evans offensive game looks like Hakeem in comparison to him, and that is sad.
I'd honestly like to see us try to get Tyreke Evans more than Reddick. I love the thought of Dalembert, unless we can move Leonard for a center upgrade who is still young
I think those centers won't be available. Teams aren't stupid. I still think center is one of the hardest quality spots.
Joel was one of the best defensive centers in the league. If his offense were even average, he should have been an all-star. He lead the league for many years in rebounding %, and he was a very good shot blocker, great at help defense and taking charges. But I was relieved to see him make any shot he put up, other than a dunk.
That's why I think it's so important to keep our pipeline primed with centers. In this years draft, even though I think Meyers is our C of the future, I think the Blazers should try to draft a C unless some other position is clear cut the better prospect. Even though Meyers is raw, I think starting him next year is the right move, we just need a solid bu C like Dalembert.
