I don't know how many of you caught the Warriors' broadcast, but Ric Bucher did a sideline interview with Gary Payton during the game. And GP explicitly mentioned that he will be working on defense with Dame this summer. First off all, I didn't realize they were even going to work out together. But if Dame sees some success from this collaboration next year, maybe PA can get GP on as a consultant to work with some others on the team as well
I mentioned it in the game thread. GP also said he thinks Lillard will be an All-Star for year to come.
Love it! This is right up there with the dream scenario a few years back of getting Olajuwon to work with a healthy Oden.
I always wanted Sabonis to come back and work with Oden. Olajuwon could work wonders with Leonard, wonder if the Blazers could hire him for 2 weeks to work with Leonard. Would also love GP to not just work with Dame this summer but be hired as an assistant coach to work with the guards during the regular season.
I hope GP is better for Lillard's career than he was for his last high profile student:
Guy is 6 foot 6. Doesn't even play PG anymore. Plays SG and SF in the NBA (when he plays). The only thing Lillard really has left to master is D.
I think he has more to master than defense. He needs to work on his lobs and ability to break the high double. He also needs to work on drawing fouls on the high post. Flail his arms when he gets bumped. Make it obvious to the refs he is getting manhandled and they are forced to make the call.
GP said similar things about working with OSU's Jared Cunningham last year - I'm not sure how good his follow-thru is. That said, GP is still the greatest college basketball player I've ever seen live. Met him at the Emerald Bowl a few years ago - very nice guy.
