Darius Miles is irrelevant. He was never beaten by a college coach. FACT.

    He went from HS-to-pros.

only reason he went pro is he couldn't pass his SATs.

yeah, but there are a lot of guys like him...talented guys at the college level who had always gotten by on ability, height, etc but have motivation, attitude or other problems. the problem is, a lot of these guys have been coddled their entire lives..even by school administrators, coaches, etc...they wouldn't have to take the tests or even show up to class because they were too important for the school's program. they'd run over the more "understanding" coaches out there.

I know. And I get your overall point, and don't necessarily disagree.

I just felt like being a smartass.

Miles never even really wanted to play ball. His mom was the driving force behind that shit.

Is he an asshole? For sure. Is it unacceptable behavior? Throwing balls out of anger certainly qualifies. But abuse? Not even close.

Maybe closer than you think. I could see it putting players in a very difficult emotional situation. The "if you don't like it, quit" concept might not be an option.

I could see players feeling trapped because they really want to play and not lose their spot on the team, but hating what they consider to be irrational and unnecessary behavior from the coach.

If any of his players are actually gay, it's definitely abuse. Calling someone a ***got is no different than calling someone a ****** or a spick. That's hardly appropriate for someone that works for the state. I realize why some of you think this isn't that big of a deal, and if this was an argument about a drill instructor verbally abusing his recruits I would be right there with ya, but we aren't talking about preparing someone for combat, we're talking about a basketball game. If this was the pros, you might have an argument, but these kids rely on this asshole because of their scholarships. They can't quit (unless another team would have them), they can't leave, and they can't tell him to fuck off or he would kick them off the team. He holds all the cards. He is in complete control. That's how college sports are.

Or if they quit, the (illegal, under NCAA rules) under-the-table handouts the athletes and/or their families receive will disappear.

Honestly, I think I could even see him getting away with it if it was a couple times, in very SPECIFIC circumstances, where he just lost his cool and players were being out of line so he got their attention in such a manner that would demand respect.

But from what I can tell - and the evidence brought forward - it happened on multiple occasions, becoming a habit more than a "last" measure.

Still, I don't see how making a mistake warrants having a ball launched at you and being chewed out to the nth degree, unless you are verbally harassing teammates/coaches or being disrespectful physically, starting scrums. I saw none of that.

Rutgers is the same institution that went after Don Imus for saying "nappy headed hoes".

The fact Rice didn't get fired on the spot for his homophobic slurs is a joke. Rutgers looks terrible here. The AD needs to be fired as well.

Good point. That was pretty ridiculous at the time (stupid thing to say but an even dumber thing to make a big deal out of).
