Mathematically, we can't catch any of the teams ahead of us, so we should have our draft pick this year. I assume we will be taking BPA, but I have a feeling it will be a 3 or a 4. nbadraft.net and draftexpress.com have us taking Michael Carter-Williams. espn lottery-mock is up and have us taking Kelly Olynyk. Would you be happy with either of these guys?
If we don't end up in the top 3, I would rather they use the pick to add to a deal to get a game-ready player. I don't think a pick in the late lottery is going to help much. Hard to believe Zeller is just about one pick ahead of us. Amazing how far he has fallen. Might be worth trying to trade up for Len.
I think we could get a big at 12 that's better than any of the guys on the bench right now. Olynyk, Plumlee or Len (if he falls to 12) would all be upgrades over Freeland and Meyers.
We would lose the pick if we were at 12 and team 13 got in the top 3. But that's pretty unlikely. I agree with Reep. If we are not in the top 3, trade the pick (i.e. draft for a different team then make the trade).
If we can make a deal that makes sense, I'd say trade the pick. If there isn't anything on the table, draft the BPA and start looking at free agency.
Why do you think those three would all be better than Leonard right away? That makes absolutely no sense to me.
Yep. http://espn.go.com/nba/standings/_/group/1 We're only 1 game better than Philly in the loss column. 3 better than Minny, and 4 better than Toronto and Washington.
We still have a chance to move up..... A VERY good chance if you look how easy Philly's schedule is. Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!
The win column is more relevant for losing teams, and we're behind 2 with 4 games to go. We're 1-1 vs. philly - I don't know who has the tie breaker. So, it's very likely we're at 12 for the draft (again, assuming 13,14 don't move up)
Meyers was a freshman that was drafted for his athleticism. He's still insanely raw and could have used more college experience IMHO. Dude is constantly lost on defensive rotations and had pretty limited footwork. Plumlee is a senior, Olynyk is a junior and Len is a soph. I think you could expect the first two to be more game-ready in terms of not getting completely lost out there. Len is probably closer to Meyers in terms of rawness, but his physical stature would really help defense in the paint.
In terms of what I want out of a center going forward when it comes to protecting the rim, rebounding, etc, Meyers Leonard hasn't really shown a lot in these areas. His best skill this year has been catching oops and knocking down 15ft jumpers (something low on the list of what I want my center to be able to do). Joel Przybilla with a little more offense is the goal. Noah/Chandler types are ideal.
Well I just disagree. I don't think those are compelling reasons. I would bet money that none of those three guys you mentioned will have better rookie years than Meyers.
Meyers is having a pretty mediocre year at 5.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.5 bpg with a PER of 12.54 I think all of them will have better numbers if given the same amount of playing time. Meyers has some nice upside and has had a few sweet dunks, but is years away from being a quality starting C.
Actually Meyers was a sophmore. He saw little action as a freshman so he was easy to overlook his first year. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Trade up or trade a package, but we don't have room for anyone not ready to compete at this level NOW.
I am not sure that is realistic. Most drafts these days are about the future. This year in particular. With a 15 man roster you have room for 3 young players to develop for the future. We can't expect a Lillard every year. I am not sure there is one in the whole draft.
